Thread Name: Lyr Req: Lowlands Low
Subject: Lyr Add: THE LOWLANDS LOW (P. J. McCall)
I am hoping someone will be able to help with the lyrics for this song from Jimmy Crowley's cd "The Coast of Malibar." Crowley attributes the song to P.J. McCall. There is a song of the same title in the Celtic Lyrics website which is listed as traditional there and, aside from the same first two verses, different lyrics. Here's what I was able to transcribe from the Jimmy Crowley recording followed by the lyrics given in the Celtic Lyrics site:

The Lowlands Low
Author: P.J. McCall
Jimmy Crowley, The Coast of Malibar

Dunmore we quitted, Michelmas come by
Cowhides and wool and live cargo
Twenty young wild geese, ready fledged to fly
Sailin' in the Lowlands low
The Lowland low, the Lowlands low
Sailin' in the Lowlands low

John Calls the skipper from the church of Crook
Piery keeps log for his father
Crew all from Bannow, Fethard and the Hook
Sailing in the Lowlands low
The Lowland low, the Lowlands low
Sailin' in the Lowlands low

Those twenty young wild geese gave Queen Anne the slip
Crossin' to [louvey] to Flanders
He and Jack [ ] both are in the [ ]
Fightin' in the Lowlands low
In the Lowlands low, the Lowlands low
Fightin' in the Lowlands low

Close lay [ ] off the Isle of White
[ ]
Out of the sea mist we bade him goodnight
Death or else the Lowlands low
The Lowlands low, the Lowlands low
Death or else the Lowlands low

Pray, holy Brendan [ ]
[ may sink us
[ ]
Sailin' in the Lowlands low
In the Lowlands low, the Lowlands low
Sailin' in the Lowlands low

The Lowlands Low

We sailed out of Dunmore Michelmas gone by
Cowhides and wool and live cargo
Twenty young Wild Geese ready fledged to fly
Sailing for the lowlands low

The lowlands low, the lowlands low
Sailing for the lowlands low

Sean Rouse the skipper from the church of Crook
Piery keeps log for his father
Crew all from Bannow, Fethard and the Hook
Sailing for the lowlands low

The lowlands low, the lowlands low
Sailing for the lowlands low

Ready with priming we'd our galliot gun
Muskets and pikes in good order
We should be riddled captives would be none
Death or else the lowlands low

The lowlands low, the lowlands low
Sailing for the lowlands low

A pirate approached us many leagues from shore
We fought and we sunk him in good order
He'll go a-roving plundering no more
Sailing for the lowlands low
The lowlands low, the lowlands low
Sailing for the lowlands low

We smuggled out the Wild Geese weapons safe ashore
Then we unloaded our cargo
A fair wind is blowing we're headed for Dunmore
Sailing from the lowlands low

The lowlands low, the lowlands low
Sailing from the lowlands low
The lowlands low, the lowlands low
Sailing from the lowlands low
