Thread Name: Chords Req: Piney River Girl (Bill Staines)
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: for an old Bill Staines song
Bill Staines recorded "Piney River Girl" on his album "The Whistle of the Jay", Folk Legacy CD #70, 1998. I transcribed this much from a sound sample at Folk Legacy and another sound sample at CDNOW:

I heard the sound of a redbird sing and the call of a whippoorwill
As the sun pulled over the eastern ridges and warmed the morning hills.
I heard the sound of an old blue hound as it wakened to the day.
He shook off all of his hound-dog dreams and wandered on his way.
Thinkin' 'bout old Virginia and a Blue Ridge memory
That fills my mind with another time and brings her back to me.
Thinkin' 'bout old Virginia and a Blue Ridge memory
That fills my mind with another time and brings her back to me.

She loved the sound of a banjo's ring...
