Thread Name: Lyr Req: Blaze Away / Mealy Pudding
Subject: Lyr Add: BLAZE AWAY
Lyrics to "Blaze Away" written by Jimmy Kennedy, who also wrote "Teddy Bears' Picnic" and many other popular songs. It was recorded by the Northern Irish tenor Josef Locke, and was re-released on several CDs. Norma Waterson also sang "Blaze Away" on her album "The Very Thought of You."

You can hear a brass-band arrangement of the tune performed by Aldershot Command Searchlight Tattoo. There are also jazz and ragtime versions out there.

In a live instrumental recording by André Rieu and the Maastricht Salon Orchestra, you can faintly hear the audience singing along.

It's interesting that the original sheet music cover illustration shows a battle scene, while the words are about a bonfire.

BLAZE AWAY
(Music, Abe Holzmann, 1901; words, Jimmy Kennedy, c1955?)

We'll make a bonfire of our troubles
And we'll watch them blaze away.
And when they've all gone up in smoke clouds,
We'll never worry should they come another day.
And as the bonfire keeps on burning,
Happy days will be returning.
While the band keeps playing,
We'll let our troubles blaze away.

Here we are. There's work to do,
And don't let troubles trouble you.
Bring them along and we'll burn them up.
Bring them along and we'll burn them up. Ha ha, ha hey!

Start and throw them right into the fire.
Watch the flames go higher and higher,
Blazing away, blazing away.
Oh, come along bring your worries round today.
