Maybe they are catching each other checking to see if the other's eyes are open, and he is somewhere asking what it means that she keeps peeking to see if his eyes are open.   

My own eyes are open, usually, and not just for kissing. Though I've been kissing my wife for 22 years she still hasn't figured out I don't really mean it, I guess. What does a kiss mean that one doesn't mean when they don't really mean it? You must remember this, a kiss is just a kiss.

I confessed once that sometimes when we're together she's her, sometimes she's just a woman I'm happy to sleep with. She said That's all right--a very good answer, I thought.
