The first time I attempted to grow a beard, I looked like something the moths dragged in. I shaved it off and tried again 7 years later. One of the things I did differently was that I trimmed the thin areas between my moustache and sideburns on a regular basis, also my throat.

Two other tips I picked up were in a book by Mitch Miller: Give yourself 6 to 8 weeks before making any decisions. Shampoo your entire face every day to reduce itching.

He also suggested that you get an eyebrow pencil and sketch in the areas you wish to allow to stay covered so you can get an idea of what you might look like when you have grown in.

As with all organic processes, be patient. You might also ask a friend to massage your face for you. It feels good and might even facilitate growth.
