Subject: Lyr Req: 'Bumper, Squire Jones'
Hi all,
I have a recording of "Bumper, Squire Jones" by the Harp Consort, and there is a verse with a line I simply don't understand, no matter how often I listen to it. It is in this verse:
Ye physical tribe whose knowledge consists in hard words and grimace >br> Whene'er ye prescribe a ??? devotion (?) ??? potion, be what will the case;
Pray, where is the need to purge, blister and bleed When ailing yourself the whole faculty owns That the thoughts of old Galen are not so prevailing As mirth with good claret - a bumper, Squire Jones!
If someone could help me here, that would be great! Thanks!
