Colin Scot used to have a song intro (to which song I cannot remember) where he pointed out that US English was the only language where one could rhyme "romance", "dance" and "trousers" as "romance", "dance" and "pants" (using short "a" throughout).

A true Englishman, of course, pronounces "dance" as "darnce", n'est-ce pas?
