Funny, it took me so long to find this. My father-in law asked for it years ago. Things got better when I began to search on Charley, not Charlie.
He did a lot of what were really risque songs in those days, gems like:
She Has the Biggest Kanakas on the Island Gladys Isn't Gratis Anymore Every Woman I've Ever Known Has Had One
He sang at the Taft Hotel in New York for about 30 years. His recordings are available now and then on eBay - that's where I got Cup Cakes. Needless to say, Pops was thrilled - we surprised him with it on Thanksgiving.
Cup Cakes — Charley Drew
Don't know if I oughter, but I love the baker's daughter, If you ask me why, you will hear me cry....
I love to nibble on her cup cakes, I just go nuts about their taste. They seem to melt right in my mouth She's never had complainers They're smooth as silk and rich with milk, And come in, oh, such cute containers. Oh, you should see those lovely cup cakes, They are much too nice to go to waste. She asked me if I'd like a bite, It's been a habit since that night, I love to nibble on her cup cakes.
I love to nibble on her cup cakes. Just like her mother's they're just right They're not too large, not too small, They fit right in my grip They're not too hard and not too soft, And there's a cherry on each tip. Oh, you should see those lovely cupcakes, They'll make you raise a hearty appetite. They're juicier than any steak, And I found that they weren't fake, I love to nibble on her cup cakes.
He introduced the third chorus as the "Returning soldier version" - remember, it's the mid 40's
Oh, how I dreamed about your cup cakes, I kept their vision on my mind. So round, so firm, so fully packed, Without exaggeration. I wish I had them there with me Each time I nibbled my K-Ration, And when I dreamed about your cup cakes, Then, I knew what I was fighting for. Remembering them, I got a yen, Saltpeter came in handy then, When I dreamed about your cup cakes.
