When I've heard Wappy used it's as in "He's gone wappy" meaning lost their temper.
How a spring can go wappy ...... ?
But in Chambers :
Wap (1) ........ a fight/quarrel
Wap (2) To wrap, bind. a turn of a string with which anything is bound.
.... springs have to bound
