Is New Years celebrated much in the UK?

Well if I thought "New Year", I'd first think of Scotland which I guess is part of the UK ;-)

New Year is celebrated all over the UK but in some parts the greed of pubs has killed off some of the enjoyment, at least for me. I've got a choice of places tonight for free but I do find it sickening that some places have taken to adopting a charge on the door policy:

"I've given you custom at least once a week and tonight you want to charge me (say) £10 for the priveledge of spending more money at your establishment" does not add up to me but there seems to be plenty willing to pay.
