Thread Name: Lyr/Tune Req: Somebody's Waiting for You
Subject: Lyr Add: IN A COOL SHADY NOOK (Sam McGee)
The earliest recording by an old-timey artist was by Sam McGee under the title 'In a Cool Shady Nook'. I reckon it is different enough to warrant posting here. There were other recordings by old-timey musicians - Riley Puckett, Stapleton Brothers, Bradley Kincaid, Pie Plant Pete, and Carlisle Brothers, mostly under the 'Somewhere Somebody's Waiting For You' title.

IN A COOL SHADY NOOK

In a cool shady nook, by the side of the brook
Two sweet maidens was (sic) fishing one day
They talked as they fished, and the younger girl wished
For a sweetheart she never knew
And the older girl said, by the toss of her head
Cheer up - you've no cause to be blue
Your love you've not met, he will come to you yet
For someone is waiting for you

Somewhere, somebody is waiting for you, you, you.
Somewhere, somebody is longing, whose heart is true
Some time, you'll love somebody who loves you too
Somewhere, somebody is waiting for you, you, you.

My friend, passing by, heard the sister reply,
Join in the chorus has been sung
'Oh yes, it is true, someone's waiting for you
And I wish that you thought I was one'
She paused for a while, then said with a smile
'Don't hope, but maybe it's true
But if I am wrong, you won't worry long
For someone is waiting for you'

Somewhere, somebody is waiting for you, you, you.
Somewhere, somebody is longing, whose heart is true
Some time, you'll love somebody who loves you too
Somewhere, somebody is waiting for you, you, you

Sorry about the previous empty posting. Perhaps an elf can remove it.
