Thread Name: PEL: Urgent soundbites - CBC interview
Subject: RE: PEL: Urgent soundbites - CBC interview
Like I said, you did fine, and for what it's worth, several million Canadians were listening.

I wasn't able to tape it cause I was listening in my truck.

If there's one thing I entirely don't understand, it's the simple question of "why are they doing this"? Obviously it's not your job to explain the opposition's position, but it would probably be worthwhile to come up with a soundbite-sized explanation of your perception of the motive for the more-restrictive PEL. (Far as I know we don't have any equivalent to the PEL in Canada, although in Saskatchewan they used to. There are, however, licencing fees payable to the composers' royalties associations which are levied by the associations on commercial venues where copyrighted music is performed.)

And even though the name "As It Happens" reflects the original premise of live reporting of current affairs, listening to the show I realized all the interviews are probably pre-taped now, cause they introduce them with a voice-over like "we reached Hille in Sussex". Makes the show easier to produce no doubt, and there's less of "hello, can we speak to Mr. Amin, please?" and "oh dear, we seem to have lost the line."
