At the festival in Mountain View in about 1971, a young woman sang a couple of unaccompanied ballads with a voice that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. It was the purest mountain singing I've ever heard.

I believe her name was "Naneen" or something close to that.

A year or so later, Granny Riddle told me that Naneen was singing "the way I did before my voice went". Which was high praise indeed.
