Hope you didn't mind my answering ... I had left it a bit, thinking you would still be around. I tried to show the subtle distinction you have amplified without spelling it out. The trouble with English accents is that traditional orthography just wasn't developed for them, and as soon as you try to write them, you push them towards caricature. Especially in arch pub signs and so on.
