Ricky says that he played a song with Monroe when he was six. Since he was born in July 1954, I assumed it was 1960, although it could have been in the first half of 1961. In 1959, Ricky would have been four and five years old. I take him at his word that he was six, thus 1960 or 1961.

As for the TV show with Flatt and Scruggs, Ricky says he was seven at the time. That would make it 1961 or 1962.
