Maybe I'm showing my age too much, but I remember chanting in my primary class in 1959:

Four gills, one pint,
Two pints, one quart,
Four quarts, one gallon,
Eight pints, one gallon.
Two gallons, one peck,
Four pecks, one bushel,
Eight bushels, one quarter.

(Who says you did learn binary arithmetic in those days?)
