Oddly enough, I got to hear this beautiful song first from my karate instructor - who comes from Martinique. He has one version sung by a lady in Creole and another, slow version by Miriam Makeba and Harry Belafonte. My girlfriend tells me that in Kenya it is about as original as "The Wild Rover" is in Ireland. I don't care. I love it!
