Poetry distills imagery in such a way that for a thoughtful reader it's like a human "WinZip" program unzipping and filling in the emotions and images and smells and sounds as they emerge from the compressed environment of the page. It's largely contingent upon what the reader brings to the poem. We have some good readers as well as good writers participating on this thread.
