A word to the wise about litigation in this particular situation. I am sure the lawyers working for the city have been over every aspect of the legalities and strategies involved, as have the lawyers working for the unions. If the unions can't win, you may be pissing in the wind. Therefore, I would be wary of any lawyer who doesn't offer services for remuneration based soley on a percentage of the increase gained through litigation. And I mean NO OTHERS - not even photocopying or filing fees or court costs or shining your shoes. And I'd check the lawyer's record under similar circumstances because if the lawyer is pissing in the wind, it'll just go all over you. Consult with your shop steward before you even consider litigation.
