Digging up a thread from quite sme time ago, I was disappointed to find that the link to the "African-American Spirituals Permathread (http:/thread.cfm?threadid=38686) is broken.
I am particularly interested in two Chariot songs: "Swing Down Sweet Chriot" and "Swing Low Sweet Chariot."
Can anyone tell me the origins of these two gospels?
Were they originally the same song that has somehow come to lead two separate lives, or are they two separate songs that are simply often confused with each other?
The page

(and many other pages!)
seems to indicate that they were originally one and the same, but it is not completely clear on this, so perhaps you can clear the matter up.
I'm also trying to find the names of the composer(s) and when the songs were originally recorded and by whom. Any pointers would be appreciated.
