Excuse my ignorance, but why does the question "who's the best folk singer you know ?" HAVE to mean "Who's the best TRADITIONAL   folksinger you know ?"

There may be a great answer to this.

Personally, I would put up with a dodgy voice if it was made up for in other ways; I would not be looking for a classically perfect performer to be a great folksinger.
