Legend in Santa Fe is that Billy the Kid killed his first man in Santa Fe. When he and his mother came to New Mexico, briefly she had a laundry or bakery (stories differ) on the little street off San Francisco Street now known as Burro Alley. A man attacked Billy's mother in the shop and Billy killed him with a knife.
All that is known for sure is that they did stay in Santa Fe a while before moving on.
