I DID edit the registry as best I could and deleted "Palnetaware" etc...and it STILL had 'something' on my machine that would not let me re-install (**IT** thought it WAS still installed!)...only when I had Windows totally re-installed was I able to start fresh with PalTalk.

(there may be a copy of PalNetAware in your C:Windows/temp directory!!! There was in mine.
