My comment doesn't quarrel with your methodology, which is standard and proper, but I was trying to point out that manifold possibilities must be considered.
A real problem for many of us is trying to match our thinking to that of people of an older time period when we are trying to evaluate a possible piece of evidence. Sometimes it is important to do so.
