There's a tribute to Tony McAuley on the BBC Website. You'll find other tributes to him if you do a Google search on his name. He must have been quite a guy. I also found the following refererence..

THE TONY MCAULEY MEMORIAL RECITAL

Avalon is a Northern Irish ensemble with strong classical and traditional roots. They perform gems of Celtic and American folk and traditional music, interwoven with music by composers such as Bach, Mozart and Tchaikovsky, as well as their own original compositions. Along with violins, viola and cello Avalon performs with uillean pipes, whistle, flute, guitar and bodhran.

Maybe they were the group he sang with? Best of luck with the contact PJ has given you.

Cheers - Sam
