Guest Lisette ... My Spanish is pretty rusty, but I was taught this song by a wonderful Mexican family in 1959. At that time, I was told that this is the true story of the legend. And Juantia, the lady who sang it for me, told me that she herself heard La Llorona, crying for her dead children, as she walked the river bank at night. I have related that story several times to several different people. Modern, meaning younger people from the larger cities in Mexico, all seem to poo poo the notion. But, older native people do not.
