Our current concerns relate to laying the foundation for future development. This means (1) soliciting membership; (2) planning the 3rd Annual Mississippi Crossroads Blues (Music) Festival; (3) offering live blues and workshops in the Delta throughout the year; and (4) producing and syndicating Mississippi Crossroads, a radio show recorded here in the Delta featuring local musicians, historians, producers and others affiliated with Delta Blues. A syndicated show of this sort will allow the Society and MDBS events to become visible throughout the U.S.
Our newest endeavor in conjunction with The Mudcat Café and sponsored by Onstage Media, Inc. utilizes the ever growing population and interest in the internet and the World Wide Web. With this project, the word will be spread globally about the Mississippi Delta Blues Society. We are already finding a tremendous interest from Europe, Australia, and Africa. Upon completion, all members and enthusiasts will be able to tap into multimedia information sources from anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The WWW site will contain biographical information, including pictures, song lists and sound clips of your and our favorite MDB Artists. The future holds essays from MDB historians as well as fans, links to Blues Labels to buy the latest releases or classic albums right on line. We also hope to expand to include Instrument makers, Blues Bars, the stars themselves, and up and coming MDB artists throughout the world.
Though local support has been strong, MDBS needs a broader base to draw from in order that our next festival will match the quality of the first three and meet our audiences high expectations. By becoming a member, you will keep the festival alive and develop an organized Blues community in the Delta. Other benefits will allow you to save money on tickets, festival and society merchandise, be informed of events through the Society Newsletter, and receive other promotional perks as they present themselves.
MDBS is currently planning the 1997 festival in Greenwood, M.S. The Society will present various styles of Blues and other musical forms influenced by this musical genre all of so deeply cherish.
