Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: Joe Offer Date: 03 May 99 - 03:32 AM Anybody got a tune to post? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: JOField Date: 03 May 99 - 11:59 AM I associate this great oldie with Porter Waggoner. The tablature is reversed, no? "How many times, etc." starts in the 4-chord, then 5, then 1...right? |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: campfire Date: 03 May 99 - 01:52 PM Joe- My mind might be mush right now, but doesn't this share a tune with Great Speckled Bird? campfire |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: Brian Hoskin Date: 03 May 99 - 02:02 PM Eric Bibb has recently recorded a great version of this. |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: LEJ Date: 03 May 99 - 02:15 PM Also a terrific version by the late, great Gram Parsons. |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: JOField Date: 03 May 99 - 03:27 PM Campfire, you're thinking of "Wild Side of Life" (Hank Thompson), which was a remake of "Great Speckled Bird", which I think was in turn a remake of "I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes". Great tunes never die. James. |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: Barry Finn Date: 03 May 99 - 05:34 PM Also shares the tune of "Hickory Wind". Barry |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: campfire Date: 03 May 99 - 07:01 PM Thanks for the correction. I guess I was right about my mind being mush, tho... ;) I shouldn't try to think on my lunch hour! campfire |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: campfire Date: 04 May 99 - 12:30 AM Joe- I have this in a book somewhere. I'm afraid its at my father's, tho, 6 hours north. I've been through all my music books here and didn't find it (altho I found lots of other stuff I'd forgotten I had. Ended up playing 'stead of computering) I take it you don't have the RUS teaching tapes? I tried playing it from the RUS chords and trying to pick it out note by note but wasn't completely happy with it. I'll keep working on it. I'd like to learn the guitar for it anyway. We sing it quite often at camp, but I don't play it...yet. campfire |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 11 Jul 99 - 07:55 PM Ian & Sylvia done done it too. |
Subject: RE: Satisfied Mind From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Jul 99 - 03:19 AM Ooops - missed your message, Campfire. I transcribed the lyrics and chords from Rise Up Singing, but I often don't like the chord suggestions in that book and don't know music well enough to come up with my own. I was hoping somebody could post a MIDI for inclusion in the database. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: Tune Req: A Satisfied Mind From: Dave Hanson Date: 14 Jul 07 - 07:23 AM I'm looking for the dots to this great song, for an upcoming gig, anyone help ? Thanks, eric |
Subject: ADD Version: Satisfied Mind From: GUEST Date: 17 Jun 10 - 02:24 PM I think Porter Wagoner's lyrics were a little different: SATISFIED MIND (as sung by Porter Wagoner) How many times have you heard someone say, "If I had his money, I could do things my way"? But little they know that it's so hard to find One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind. Once I was wading in fortune and fame, Everything that I dreamed of to get a start in life's game. Then suddenly it happened, I lost every dime. But I'm richer by far with a satisfied mind. Money can't buy back your youth when you're old, Or a friend when you're lonely, Or a love that's grown cold. The wealthiest person is a pauper at times, Compared to the man with a satisfied mind. When life has ended, my time has run out, My friends and my loved ones I'll leave there's no doubt. But there's one thing for certain, when it comes my time, I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Satisfied Mind From: GUEST,kendall Date: 18 Jun 10 - 06:31 AM I recorded this one for Folk Legacy back in, I think, 1975? It's still available. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Satisfied Mind From: Joe Offer Date: 22 Jan 17 - 08:48 PM I'm not satisfied with the information we have on this song. I learned it from a performance by John McCutcheon. He accompanied himself on autoharp, and the song sounded timeless - not a commercial production from 1955. Isn't there somebody who can tell us something wonderful about this song? -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Origins: Satisfied Mind From: meself Date: 22 Jan 17 - 11:20 PM Nope! But Glen Campbell recorded it back in the 1960s .... |
Subject: RE: Origins: Satisfied Mind From: GUEST,Gerry Date: 22 Jan 17 - 11:41 PM You're absolutely correct, Joe, it's not a commercial production from 1955. It's a commercial production from 1954, according to https://secondhandsongs.com/work/3837 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L4CEZw1aMc |
