A group of us (64) are going to be staying at Conwy in North Wales for a week of singing, drinking and eating etc. If there are any folkies/mudcaters in the area who would like to meet up for a drink or a sing or know of any folkie events going on we would love to know.

I live in Llandno (about 4 miles from Conwy). I am not aware of any New Years do's but Conwy has a reglar folk club in the Malt Loaf on a Monday night and there is also an open sort of session in the Mail Coach on a Sunday night.

Other venues with about 20 miles are:
Monday night: Tap and Spile, Bangor - Welsh Session
Thursday night: Rhoslan, Llandudno - beginners session.
Friday night: Costigans, Rhyl - Folk Club.
Friday night: O'Seas, Bangor - Irish Session
Wednesday night: The Bull, Denbigh - Folk Club.

I always like meeting other players so please get in touch. My phone number is 01492 877299 and my e-mail address is jonbanjo@freeuk.com.

Hope you have a good time,

Jon

I hadn't noticed the number of you when I made my last post. Some of these venues would be a bit full on the folk nights! Not to worry though - if things get too tight, one can always start something else off as well - I've known upstairs and he downstairs bars in O'Seas to be used and both bars of the Malt Loaf... and then there are always other pubs and other nights...

Wow! That was a quick reply. When I said there was 64 of us that is true but as there are about 25 children you won't find more then perhaps 30ish of us going out at any one time. Just one final point of interest most of us met about 25 to 30 years ago at the monthly Tanners Hatch Folk nights and we have been meeting regularly ever since even though we now live all over the country.

I have asked Pat at the Malt Loaf, Conwy tonight and he is quite willing to consider an extra event if need be.

Llanfair, I will let you know if I hear anything but I am considering a change of plans for my own Christmas and/ or New Year and there is an outside chance that I may go over to Norfolk to visit my parents who I have not seen in over 2 years so I might not be in the Conwy area anyway.

I believe that another regular session has started in Conwy. It is on a Friday night at the George and Dragon and as far as I know, it starts at 9pm.

As regards setting up events, I have asked a few players but got no real interest but I am not in favour at the moment...

Gosh this thread has me all aflutter with nostalgia. I spent an enchanting three days in Conwy back in 1989 and absolutely adored it. I would love to visit again some day. Now that I know there are some terrific music lovers there it is even more of an incentive to try and go back... I have lots of great photos from my trip and now I am gonna go home tonight and check 'em out for the first time in years... hope you all had a nice time at New Year's! peg
