Subject: Ta Mo Chleamhnas Deanta From: Maelgwyn (inactive) Date: 27 Mar 99 - 01:21 PM Could someone post the lyrics to 'Ta Mo Chleamhnas Deanta' from the Chieftains CD 'Irish Heartbeat'. I'm pretty sure I copied 'em down wrong and I can't seem to get my friend to remember to bring her CD over again. Thanks. |
Subject: Lyr Add: TÁ MO CHLEAMHNAS DÉANTA From: Big Mick Date: 27 Mar 99 - 09:56 PM Hi Maelgwyn, how've you been? I am using the slash to represent the fada as I canna type them on my keyboard.
TÁ MO CHLEAMHNAS DÉANTA
Tá mo chleamnhas déanta ó athrú aréir
My match it was made here last night
Shiúl mise thoir agus shiúl mise thiar
I walked up and I walked down.
D'éirigh mé ar maidin dhá uair roimh an lá
I got up two hours before day Mick |

Subject: RE: Ta Mo Chleamhnas Deanta From: Philippa Date: 28 Apr 99 - 01:44 PM corrections to above: verse 1 'geoillte' should be gcoillte (woodlands), verse 2 (Irish)"Bh'Ta/th Cliath" should be "Baile Átha Cliath" (another name for Dublin), verse 3 "loadubh" should be "londubh" (blackbird). Subject: Lyr Add: TÁ MO CHLEAMHNAS DÉANTA From: Philippa Date: 28 Apr 99 - 02:04 PM I had the following saved in my wp; it's not much different except for an extra verse (#3) and that only the Irish verses are sung. The song can be sung to at least two airs, the one used by Altan and Chieftains and the other one recorded by na Casadaigh and published in Ó Baoill. Ceólta Gael. TÁ MO CHLEAMHNAS DÉANTA
Tá mo chleamhnas déanta ó arú aréir.
ó shiúil mise thoir agus shiúil mise thiar,
Is fada 'tá mo tharraingt ins a' bhaile seo le bliain
ó d'eirigh mé ar maidín dhá uair roimh an lá,
A match was made here last night to a girl I neither love nor like
I walked up and I walked down
I've been a long year in this town, and it's not for Mary or for God,
I woke up two hours before day and I got a letter from my true love |

Subject: RE: Ta Mo Chleamhnas Deanta From: Philippa Date: 28 Apr 99 - 02:51 PM a Choilm, An gciallaíonn tú go bhfuil an dá theanga measgtha sna rainn céanna? Bhiodh suim ar leith ag Annraoi Ó Preith, atá ag déanamh taighde ar mhacarónachas, san leagan ud. Sna leaganacha ag na Chieftains agus ag Altan agus atá i gcló sa leabhar ag Diarmuid Ó Muirithe, cantair rann i mBearla (aistriúchan) i ndiaidh rainn i nGaeilge. Colm says there's a version in which Irish and English are mixed together and I want to check whether he means the two languages are mixed together in the same verse, rather than in alternating verses as in th Chieftains, Altan and Ó Muirithe (published) versions. |
