Subject: In My Time of Dyin' From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 22 Sep 99 - 08:23 PM I originally learned this song from Bob Dylan's first album. Certainly it's an old blues/gospel number. Maybe it's Rev. Gary Davis?

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: In My Time of Dyin' From: Sandy Paton Date: 22 Sep 99 - 08:56 PM In my memory, I hear Josh White singing this one, but didn't he sing "Jesus gonna make up my dyin' bed?" Sandy (who doesn't really know the words) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: In My Time of Dyin' From: Caindawg Date: 23 Sep 99 - 03:30 PM I perform it regulary like Dylan's version and I use "Jesus goona make up my dyin' bed. The last verse I use goes "In my time of dyin' Don't want nobody to cry All I want for you to do is Take me when I die" I play it in std tuning with capo at 2nd fret to get the Dylan voicing. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: In My Time of Dyin' From: Wally Macnow Date: 23 Sep 99 - 08:42 PM Sandy, Josh sang it and he did sing "Jesus gonna make up my dyin' bed". I just finished listening to the CD that Smithsonian/Folkways put out last year that has the song on it. He was one helluva singer and guitarist. I feel very lucky that I was able to get to see him a number of times in NYC. |
