Subject: Tennessee Bird Walk?? From: BillS Date: 10 Jun 97 - 02:39 PM I remember this from some years back (I want to say the early 70's) on one of the various Saturday Morning vignettes. The chorus goes something like:
So remember me my darling when spring is in the air Anybody got the full lyrics or a reference to a recording? |

Subject: RE: Tennessee Bird Walk?? From: rechal@earthlink.net Date: 10 Jun 97 - 06:06 PM I think I remember a verse that went:
I'm a bow-legged chicken, I'm a knock-kneed hen Never been so happy since I don't know when I walk with a wiggle and a giggle and a squawk Doin' the Tennessee Bird Walk. |

Subject: ADD: Tennessee Wigwalk ^^ From: Gene Graham Date: 10 Jun 97 - 07:56 PM Well, 'scuse me! Mem'ry served me wrong! Bonnie Lou did the Tennessee Wigwalk! TENNESSEE WIGWALK Recorded by Bonnie Lou Words and music by N. Gimbel and L. Coleman I'm a bow-legg'd chicken, I'm a knock-knee'd hen Never been so happy since I don't know when I walk with a wiggle and giggle and a squawk Doin' the Tennessee Wigwalk. To a tune on a fiddle on a hardwood floor Tho' I'm broke and I'm weary and my back is sore I walk with a wiggle and giggle and a squawk Doin' the Tennessee Wigwalk. Put your toes together; your knees apart Bend you back; get ready to start Flap your elbows just for luck Then you wiggle and you waddle like a baby duck. Dance with me honey; tap your toes and glide And we'll always be together; side by side Walk with wiggle and a giggle and a squawk Doin' the Tennessee Wigwalk. Walk with a wiggle; wiggle with a walk And you're doin' the Tennessee Wigwalk. Doin' the Tennessee Wigwalk. Doin' the Tennessee Wigwalk. ^^ |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE TENNESSEE BIRD WALK (J Blanchard)^^ From: Gene Graham Date: 10 Jun 97 - 08:38 PM And here's the other one....ENJOY! THE TENNESSEE BIRD WALK (Words and music by Jack Blanchard) Take away the trees and the birds'll have to sit upon the ground. Umh! Take away their wings and the birds'll have to walk to get around And take away the birdbaths and dirty birds will soon be everywhere Take away their feathers and the birds'll walk around in underwear Take away their (*Whistle sound) and the birds'll have to whisper when they sing Take away their common sense and they'll be headed southward in the spring REFRAIN: Oh, remember me my darling, when spring is in the air When the bald-headed birds are whispering everywhere When you see them walkin' southward in their dirty underwear It's The Tennessee Birdwalk. How about some trees, so the birds won't have to sit upon the ground. Umh! And how about some wings, so the birds won't have to walk to get around And how about a birdbath or two, so the birds'll all be clean And how about some feathers, so their underwear no longer will be seen How about a little (*Whistle sound), so the birds wont have whisper when they sing And how about some common sense, so they won't be blockin' traffic in the spring. REPEAT REFRAIN: It's The Tennessee Birdwalk; It's The Tennessee Birdwalk; It's The Tennessee Birdwalk. Recorded by Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan ^^ |

Subject: RE: Tennessee Bird Walk?? From: Once Famous Date: 08 Aug 04 - 05:18 PM I always rated The Tennessee Birdwalk by Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan as one of the worst country songs of all time. I mean really, birds in their dirty underwear. What kind of drugs were these hillbillies on? BTW, the song was definately from the middle 1960s by them. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tennessee Bird Walk?? From: Once Famous Date: 09 Aug 04 - 09:17 PM George Seto, sorry but's it's a stupid song and hardly a classic. Guest, Gene you are quite a cut & paster. As a country music historian for about 40 years, I am familiar with virtually everything you listed and actually own a good number of it. Much of it you list is not close to country parody. Please tell me what Tennesse Birdwalk was a parody of. You forgot to list anything by a well known country parody group, The Geezinslaw Brothers. The thing about this genre is it can make for some "novel" listening. Hell, I've listened to Dr. Demento off and on for years (BTW, he is considered to have the largest record collection in the world). However, the joke is old when you know the punch line. Don't tell me that you laugh at every joke that's thrown at you, or find hearing novelty songs just as funny everytime you hear them. This genre is barely alive in country music today with the exception of Cletus Judd, and without the videos, it's pretty lame. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tennessee Bird Walk?? From: GUEST,Dale Date: 11 Aug 04 - 01:02 AM I'm with Bill D, Martin. I don't usually enter into the shouting match, name calling type things, but here I'll make an exception. Whether Gene is posting under his full name, or Guest,Gene, or whatever, he is a good and faithful member of the Mudcat, and has been almost from the beginning. If you want lyrics, sources, soundfiles, tapes/cds, whatever, he either has them, or will get them for you, with no strings attached, simply because he wants to be of help. I can't even count the times I have benefited from his generosity and knowledge. You would too, you have only to ask. Not liking a particular song is one thing, but making unkind remarks about someone who is so important and helpful to us all is quite another. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tennessee Bird Walk?? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 14 Mar 06 - 10:53 AM Where have you guys been? To really experience "Tennessee Birdwalk," you have to be at home with somebody who has a good voice. You get the guitars going, and the singer sings it, rising to a throbbing crescendo with exciting chords on the words about "the bald-headed birds whispering", taking us down gradually on "headed southward" then alighting ever-so-softly on "Tennessee Birdwalk." It's a monument to musical self-importance - could have been done by Beethoven. What you need, martin, is less self-assurance and more parties. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tennessee Bird Walk From: GUEST,TJ in San Diego Date: 23 Oct 08 - 04:50 PM Sheb Wooley, though obviously not the only one to do this song, had quite a career apart from it and things like "Purple People Eater," etc. He was also active in film and on television. Some may remember him as one of the bad guys in the movie, "High Noon." He was also a regular in the cast of the old t.v. series, "Wagon Train." He had the look of a somewhat rough-hewn cowboy, but was said to have a wicked sense of humor. |
