Subject: Scottish Song 'The Gaffer' From: Metchosin Date: 10 Mar 00 - 01:00 AM I am trying to transcribe lyrics from some old Scottish 78 RPM records called "A Miner's Saturday Night" by the Joe Corrie's Players. There is a skit with a song on it called, I think, "The Gaffer".The recording is noisy and I am having trouble with the dialect, but the last verse sounds something like this: The next thing to come Was a hog fishing man So I ??? and I ??? and followed his plan And I finished it up With me cap in the pawn All to keep up with the gaffer Oh its hard to keep up with the gaffer Is anyone familiar with this song? |

Unfortunately, I don't have details for the copy I found in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, but I think the title was 'Collected Works' or 'Collected Poems'. - Susanne |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Scottish Song 'The Gaffer' From: Metchosin Date: 11 Mar 00 - 08:01 PM Thanks Susanne, I found a couple of his songs here but I haven't been able to dig up this one and I am not certain if Joe Corrie wrote it for the drama, or if he just included it from elsewhere. However I am sending the tape to Murray on Saltspring and he may be able to assist. I'll also see what I can do through the library here in Canada. |
