Subject: Please Post Tunes Here From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Jul 00 - 02:34 PM Note: We reserve the right to edit or delete messages in this thread, and we may delete tunes once they are available in the Digital Tradition. There's an effort about to collect tunes for all the Digital Tradition songs. The missing tunes thread (click) has information about tunes that are needed, and about tunes that have been posted in other locations. The Mudcat Cafe has over 23,000 threads posted so far, so we have to take some care to ensure that we don't lose tunes and lyrics that are posted.
I hope that clears up what we need. I'm sure Dick Greenhaus will drop in from time to time to give us further instructions. If you post your tunes here in this thread or send them to Mudcat MIDIs or to Dick, it will make it much easier for us to make use of them. Thanks. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Tune Add: Please Post Tunes Here I From: John in Brisbane Date: 27 Jul 00 - 07:07 PM There are hundred(s)of tunes missing from the DT which have been published in the regular Sing Out publication, as opposed to the Collected Reprints. I haven't been able to find any library in Australia which houses even part of the collection. If you can locate one in your area let me know. If I can still find it I did clean up the complete indexes from the Sing Out site to create a more searchable database of published songs/tunes over the past 50 years. Regards, John |

Exact format is filename[ FIRSHIP-but what you've given is surely enough to let Dick know how to find it. Sorcha, I don't think you need to include all that search criteria stuff as long as you include the DT filename, and the song title or titles that you have for the tune. -Joe Offer- |

This tune goes with the number 4 (Berwickshire) version, but will fit several others. I learned a slightly different version as a child from my mother, who was born on Tyneside in 1921, but her parents were of Scottish stock. We are three Jews, we come from Spain, To court upon your daughter Jane. Our daughter Jane is far too young To understand your noisy tongue. SPOKEN: Go away, Corkscrew. Our name, our name is not Corkscrew, We'll stamp our foot, and away we'll go. Come back, come back, your coat is green, And choose the fairest one you see. The fairest one that I can see Is [name here]. Come out to me. SPOKEN: I will not come. The naughty girl, she won't come out, She won't come out, she won't come out; The naughty girl, she won't come out, To join us in the dancing. SPOKEN: I will come. Now we've got the lady out, The lady out, the lady out, Now we've got the lady out, To join us in the dancing. 3439 THREE LOVELY LASSES see Kimmage - tunefile[ KIMMAGE Wassail! V

O Sacred head, sore wounded, defiled and put to scorn; O kingly head, surrounded with mocking crown of thorn: What sorrow mars thy grandeur? Can death thy bloom deflower? O countenance whose splendour the hosts of heaven adore! Thy beauty, long desirèd, hath vanished from our sight; Thy power is all expirèd, and quenched the light of light. Ah me! for whom thou diest, hide not so far thy grace: Show me, O Love most highest, the brightness of thy face. I pray thee, Jesus, own me, me, Shepherd good, for thine; Who to thy fold has won me, and fed with truth divine. Me guilty, me refuse not, incline thy face to me, This comfort that I lose not, on earth to comfort thee. In thy most bitter passion my heart to share doth cry, With thee for my salvation upon the cross to die. Ah, keep my heart thus movèd, to stand thy cross beneath, To mourn thee, well-belovèd, yet thank thee for thy death. My days are few, O fail not, with thine immortal power, To hold me that I quail not in death's most fearful hour: That I might fight befriended, and see in my last strife To me thine arms extended upon the cross of life. Subject: RE: Tune Add: Please Post Tunes Here I From: Snuffy Date: 28 Aug 00 - 12:22 PM I've been exploring Bruce Olson's Scarce Songs site and some associated abc files, and have had some success in finding his abc's of songs he has submitted. (Quotes from Bruce's site are in italics) 27 AILEEN A ROON 7 - [EILAROO7 28 AILEEN AROON - [EILAROO2 29 AILEEN AROON 3 - [EILAROO3 30 AILEEN AROON 4 - [EILAROO4 991 EILEEN AROON 5 - [EILAROO5 992 EILEEN AROON 6 - [EILAROO6 All six of these were submitted to DT by Bruce. Both these tunes on his website would fit all six of these, but the second would need to be severely "de-ornamented" first. Cooke's Cooke's Selection of Twenty One Favourite Original Irish Airs, c 1795, copied in Hime's 'New Selection', c 1805. The tune is Dorian mode. Bunting's setting has a key signature of two flats (G minor), but he then puts a natural sign in front of all of the E's. The second copy of the tune here is an instrumental version, not suitable for singing, but it seems to be the earliest copy of the tune. I have removed the repeats in tune 2 (now AB not AABB) and think removing most of the "ornaments" would make it singable. Subject: RE: Tune Add: Please Post Tunes Here I From: Snuffy Date: 02 Sep 00 - 10:22 AM Back in the early 60s my brother was member #41 in the Springfields fan club. As we only had 3 or 4 albums each then, I heard a lot of Dusty. I've done these from my memory of those times, but I haven't heard these sung in over 30 years, so the tunes may not be exactly as she sang them. Subject: RE: Tune Add: Please Post Tunes Here I From: Snuffy Date: 29 Sep 00 - 08:16 PM On 4th August Sorcha posted an ABC for "The Fox Went Out", labelled file [FOXOUT5. This tune was a variant of the 'normal' tune in the DT under "the Fox" [FOXOUT. I have never heard the tune which the Copper Family used for this song, but I have found a similar (but shorter) text by The Young Tradition on So Cheerfully Round. This has a completely different tune, suitable for 'a capella' harmonising. There are a few other no-tune songs on So Cheerfully Round that I hope to transcribe shortly - Watercress-O; Reynard The Fox (3) (on the LP as "The Foxhunt"); The Hungry Child; and Whitsun Carol. Also another version and tune of The Dragoon And the Lady DADDY FOX Daddy Fox, he went out one chilly night, He prayed to the moon for to give him light; For he'd many, many miles to go that night, Before he came to his den-o. Den-o, den-o, For he'd many, many miles to go that night, Before he came to his den-o. So he grabbed the grey goose by the neck, And he throwed a duck all across his back. And he heeded not their quilly quilly quack, Nor the legs all a-dangling down-o. Down-o etc.
