Subject: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 09 Jul 01 - 03:03 PM Hey Folks, This is an alert to mudgathering that is currently being set up for Friday August 24th....It is looking to be in Sumner, WA. As many of you know, my dear friend Mrrzy is coming out west for a week. A few of us thought it would be a great idea to have a get together when Mrrzy is here... The details are still being etched out, but I will keep you all posted on them. Oh and one more thing, any Catters who are in the Portland area and would like to go, but have no transportation...just let me know...I'll be more than happy to provide it. Take care all. Nathan |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 09 Jul 01 - 04:21 PM refresh |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 09 Jul 01 - 04:24 PM Such good news. I'll be there with bells on, or maybe not the bells...got in trouble last time...LOL Any Eastsiders (DRY, right Alex?) need a lift for the day, I can rig something up as well. ~Jen |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mark Cohen Date: 09 Jul 01 - 06:26 PM I'll be there in spirit, folks. And if anybody wants to make a side trip to Hawaii, just let me know. Aloha, Mark (ex-Seattle Song Circler, among other things) |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Benjamin Date: 09 Jul 01 - 06:47 PM JenEllen, a Seattle boy could use a lift. That's just across the lake. I said I wouldn't be around awhile back when this happened, but things have changed. I'm here, and will continue to be here during that time. I'd love to get involved and finaly meet those near me. Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Jul 01 - 06:52 PM Just a suggestion: When threads like this are started, could some indication as to the country be given in the title? Jon |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: clansfolk Date: 09 Jul 01 - 07:37 PM Shame I thought it was going to be the North West of England......... Good old Lancashire...
Maybe at Fylde in September?????? Pete |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Noreen Date: 09 Jul 01 - 07:44 PM Yes, same here, Jon and Pete... Looks like there will be a few of us at Fylde, and Swinton too. Noreen |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: 8_Pints Date: 09 Jul 01 - 08:59 PM Just as long as its not 8th Sept, Jon, Pete & Noreen, as that is the Manchester (UK) gathering of the Northumbrian Pipers' Society! Bob vG |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mg Date: 09 Jul 01 - 09:33 PM if I am free that day I would love a ride from Portland. mg |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: MAG Date: 09 Jul 01 - 10:22 PM Let me know the details, and I will see if I can get off work that Friday and Sat. -- MAG |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: blt Date: 10 Jul 01 - 12:24 AM Where the heck is Sumner, WA, Nathan? I hope I can go, my job situation is going through transition so I'm not exactly sure what my hours will be in August. If I can go, I can also either carpool or follow somebody north in my own car, like a Mudcat convoy. Barbara |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 10 Jul 01 - 12:41 AM It's up towards Seattle, about a couple of hours from here...just a few miles off of I-5... |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 10 Jul 01 - 12:54 AM Oh, and when would be a good time for us all to meet? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 10 Jul 01 - 12:40 PM |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: John J Date: 10 Jul 01 - 12:47 PM Soddit! Now if it was NW England...... Have a good time! John (in NW England) |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Benjamin Date: 10 Jul 01 - 01:01 PM There shouldn't be any conflicts on a weekend for me. Tuesdays I have my lessons. Other days I'll have to take of work, or just quit (only a summer job, it's going to happen sooner or later). Still, my vote is for a Saturday. Don't you love how in one thread, 2 gatherings can be planned at the same time? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mrrzy Date: 10 Jul 01 - 01:41 PM Hi, I'm awake, sorry, I missed this whole thread till now. I will have a car and will be going, obviously, and will probably be going from Seattle. I still vote for Friday, because I leave again on Sunday and ought to spend the Saturday with the friend who's bought us the plane tickets! Note that in my car already are myself and the twins, but the front seat is available for an adult, and I'd love to have company on the drive, Benjamin! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Margo Date: 10 Jul 01 - 02:16 PM Hmmmm... Maybe, maybe I could get away. I'll have been away for a whole week at Puget Sound Guitar Workshop Ther first week of August leaving my 2 special kids with my ever so tolerant hubby. I don't know if he'll want me to go anywhere again so soon... Gotta keep our sanity. I'll try, Margo |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mrrzy Date: 10 Jul 01 - 02:37 PM Bring the kids! Mine are 6... And my Seattle buddy might come too, which would be great. We've known each other for just about 15 years - You'll get horror stories of my mad mad youth! (however, that might bump Benjamin off my front seat. Are you small enough to fit between people in a backseat? Also, FYI, here is a link to the thread that started all the trouble... |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 11 Jul 01 - 05:56 PM Why don't we all met at my place in the late afternoon or early evening, chat a bit, grab a bite to eat, then head up to the Acoustic Cafe around 9ish (which is when things get really moving there, in my experience) and people can stay as long as they like until they get tired and want to go home. The cover charge is I think $4. As I said before somewhere, it's a no-smoking, alcohol-free environment. The entertainment is strictly open-mike, usually 3 or 4 songs per person (depending on how many people show up), and you can get all sorts of things but usually nothing downright noisy and electric. Last time I sang there, I sang a song a capella, and it was very well received! I live about 4 blocks south of the Acoustic Cafe in Sumner, Washington. Driving directions available at no extra cost. Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 11 Jul 01 - 05:59 PM Sounds ok with me...how about anyone else? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Benjamin Date: 11 Jul 01 - 08:01 PM Everything has to cost money these days! Mrrzy, I'm not to sure I'd be comfortable between two 6 year old twins in the back seat. |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: John P Date: 11 Jul 01 - 11:43 PM I'll be there if we don't have a gig. Alex, if you can send me the driving destructions I'd appreciate it. John |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 12 Jul 01 - 01:30 AM Benjamin...surely you could handle it for a couple of measley hours? come on, boy, it'll be fun! JohnP, that would be great! hope you can make it! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 12 Jul 01 - 01:55 AM Looks like I'm in the wrong thread, where is this Seattle you speak of?! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 12 Jul 01 - 02:39 PM Yup. Got the ENTIRE day off. (girl basking in the glow of 24hrs of freedom) Alex, I'd love directions as well. Anoyone else needing wheels, I've got room. ~Jen |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 12 Jul 01 - 02:50 PM From I-5, from south of the 512 interchange: Go north on 5, then west on 512, then north on 167 (less than a mile) then east on 410. From I-5, from north of the Southcenter (405) interchange: Go south on 5, then north on 405, then south on 167, then east on 410. From I-90, from east of the 405 interchange: Go west on 90, then south on 405, then south on 167, then east on 410. From I-5, from south of the 405 interchange but north of the 516 (Kent-Des Moines Road) interchange: Go south on 5, then east on 516, then south on 167, then east on 410. From I-5, from south of the 516 interchange but north of the 167 (River Road) interchange: Go south on 5, then north on 167 (follow the jog in Puyallup; watch for the signs!) then east on 410. From I-5, from south of the 167 interchange but north of 512: Go north on 5, then north on 167, then east on 410. ONCE YOU GET ON 410 EASTBOUND: Take the first exit (exit-only lane on the far right). Left at light (East Main or Traffic Avenue). Right at next light (Thompson). Under the train tracks. From 410, east of Sumner: Go west on 410 to the 3rd Sumner exit (marked "Thompson" or maybe "Traffic Ave"). Go through the light, under the train tracks (you're on Thompson). ONCE YOU'RE ON THOMPSON: Go down several blocks to Kincaid. Turn right on Kincaid (landmark: very large, very teal victorian house). Look for the house with the lamp-post (r. side). That's mine. How about a show-up time of between 5 and 6, with supper to be at about 6:30? Or is that too early? Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mrrzy Date: 12 Jul 01 - 03:33 PM I reiterate that I like alcohol. And Benjamin, we'll try to work something out, I can always stick Jim in the back seat for one way, and you can have the back for the other? And they are skinny... Mousethief, did I pm you thinking you were in Vancouver? I must be getting my mudcatters mixed up. Will check the other thread and see whom I meant... |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 12 Jul 01 - 03:56 PM That would explain why your PM didn't make sense to me. Yeah, that's probably what happened. Thanks for the reiteration. I like desserts. Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Benjamin Date: 12 Jul 01 - 06:55 PM Mrrzy, Amerigin, JenEllen and I are working out the ride situation. So far, she's looking like she might have more room. I plan on being there though. Don't worry! John, I wonder what was going through your head when you asked for "driving distructions." I'm not sure Alex gave you what you want above. |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 12 Jul 01 - 07:00 PM I try to be helpful. But if you distrust my instructions, which is perhaps what your portmanteau means, you won't get here! Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Jon Freeman Date: 12 Jul 01 - 07:06 PM John in Hull, Seattle is in the North West of the US. Washington State? Jon |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 12 Jul 01 - 07:14 PM Yeah, too bad Jon. That's okay, Angus doesn't get to go either....*bg* |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Jon Freeman Date: 12 Jul 01 - 07:18 PM Shame elle, wonder if Angus could make a UK gathering one day - would love to meet "my" dog! Jon |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 12 Jul 01 - 07:21 PM Hey, if they get that pesky quarantine stuff figured out, then he'll be on the first flight to a UK Gather with his mistress in tow! (btw, he says 'woof') ~Elle |

Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mbridgham Date: 19 Jul 01 - 11:07 AM If I happen to be in Seattle or Portland on business that week, which I often am, I'd like to make the trek! MarcB(formerly in the Northwest - US variety, now a Texan) |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mrrzy Date: 19 Jul 01 - 11:32 AM Hey MarcB, that would be great! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 19 Jul 01 - 11:37 AM We here in these environs often use the phrase "Pacific Northwest" to distinguish it from other northwests -- like Evanston, Illinois, home of "Northwestern" University. Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 19 Jul 01 - 01:08 PM That would be great if you could make it MarcB. Happy note, I just flipped the big clinic calendar and y'all have a great big day, highlighted and MRRZY'd, staring at me from the wall. Big smiles. ~J |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 19 Jul 01 - 03:19 PM Mrrzy, staring at you from the wall? You go mushroom picking in the cattle fields again? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 19 Jul 01 - 03:27 PM Singing "Tiptoe through the cow-chips..." Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: ChanteyMatt Date: 19 Jul 01 - 03:34 PM Friday? The 24th? Why do I have to have a regular job? Well, perhaps I could call in "well" or maybe with eye trouble (can't see going to work). I'm over on Bainbridge Island (Puget Sound). I'd be driving through Bremerton and Tacoma. If some one knows where the hell we're going, let me know. Have truck. Will Drive. Matthew |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 19 Jul 01 - 03:43 PM Okay, note to self, to stay away from the cowchips...LOL Yeah Matthew, the 24th, evening-ish...C'MON! Love to sing with a chanteyguy. ~J |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mrrzy Date: 19 Jul 01 - 04:03 PM And if you miss the Gathering, ChanteyMatt, I will be in the Seattle area for about 10 days... we might could (as we say down South) get together anyway... JenEllen, don't let them worry you, I'm HONORED to be plastered (to your wall, or whatever)! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 19 Jul 01 - 04:05 PM You're just honoured to be plastered...I read all about YOU! LOL |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 19 Jul 01 - 04:07 PM Okay, I need a show of hands so JenEllen (who has kindly volunteered to help me cook) and I know how many to set table for! The date: 24 August. The Place: Mousethief's House (see driving directions, above) The deal: supper and conversation at the Mouse Place, followed by live music at the Acoustic Cafe, located just about 6 short blocks north of same in Sumner, WA. The time: show up between 5 and 7; we'll eat around 7 and wander over to the Cafe around 9ish. Please let me know if you're coming, either here on this thread or by PM. Thanks! Alex |

Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Benjamin Date: 19 Jul 01 - 07:10 PM I'm coming and think I've got ride arrangements together. What's going to be for supper? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 19 Jul 01 - 07:13 PM A family favorite: DIY stovetop enchiladas. With topping (well, stuffing) choices suitable for vegeterians and meat-eaters alike. Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: MAG Date: 20 Jul 01 - 02:01 AM There is still some chance I will be able to make this. What potlucks are we to bring? -- MAG |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 20 Jul 01 - 02:16 AM Well, I'm bringing my charming smile made famous in the calendar....and a few other charming smiles I hope... Seriously, Alex, is there anything you want us to bring? Mag, here does make a good suggestion.... Mag, I hope you can make it! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 20 Jul 01 - 02:20 AM I asked him the same thing, and on top of my own lil'grin, have wines and dessert covered. Anything else Alex??? ~J |

Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 20 Jul 01 - 02:44 AM VERY funny Nathan! LOL...actually, I rarely touch the stuff. Can you imagine the scene that would be? I can barely be trusted sober :) I only offered because this valley is fantastic for wines, and we can't send Mrrzy home without her tasting the bounty (and smuggling some home for later!) ~Jen |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 20 Jul 01 - 02:53 AM True enough! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: MAG Date: 20 Jul 01 - 02:55 AM There's a thought; WW has many excellent ones. We could have a wine tasting. Well, not if Mouse wants to get us out of his house and on to drink elsewhere ... |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 20 Jul 01 - 05:59 PM just refreshing... |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 21 Jul 01 - 04:35 PM |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 22 Jul 01 - 12:07 AM That's Pepsi-Cola! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: JenEllen Date: 23 Jul 01 - 03:10 PM Then what's a "wee-fwesh"? (Don't answer that...) |

Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Don Firth Date: 24 Jul 01 - 08:09 PM It's ALIVE!! It's ALIVE!! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 24 Jul 01 - 09:30 PM Don, will you be able to make it? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: reggie miles Date: 25 Jul 01 - 10:51 AM It would be a treat to meet some of you in the flesh. I think I can make that event. Finally a gathering near enough to travel to. It's only about an hour and a half from where I dwell, just beyond the event horizon of the known universe, here in beautiful downtown Sultan. Is there room for one more? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 25 Jul 01 - 11:48 AM Absolutely! How are the cooling towers? Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Don Firth Date: 25 Jul 01 - 12:43 PM Amergin, I'm going to try to make it, but it's a bit problematic at the moment. I'm recovering from an accident I had some time back, and getting in and out of a car is pretty difficult right now. I'll have to see how things go. Don Firth |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mrrzy Date: 25 Jul 01 - 01:37 PM Self, adult friend, and 2 6-year olds. I eat anything that doesn't have olives or fresh cilantro, or taste like licorice (no anise or anything). I like Irish whiskey (especially with decaf coffee and cream and sugar, yum!)... or vodka... the boys will eat pretty much anything that isn't hot and spicy, but like fruit best, right now. They will eat an entire cantaloupe with other fruits chopped up into the middle and keep going... and Don Firth, we'd be very happy to have you there, but if all else fails, maybe we can get you on the phone or something... Oh, and my friend from Seattle is diabetic, so no sugar as an ingredient allowed for him. We are both garlic junkies. Sorry, I'm not much of a wine drinker, but I'm sure I'll be sampling some lovely vinyard stuff! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: reggie miles Date: 25 Jul 01 - 08:38 PM Uh.... sawry Alex....cooling towers??? Yeehaa, I'm goin' to a gathrin'! So, what's needed for the potluck? Should I pack my musical gear? Did I understand that the AC wants $4 from me if I participate in their open stage? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 26 Jul 01 - 01:10 PM Well, Don, that is rough luck....I hope you are well enough to come along! And if not, there is always next time... Reggie, I hope to see you there too! nathan |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 26 Jul 01 - 02:02 PM Aye on the $4. There are cooling towers in Satsop, are there not? From a failed WPPSS project? Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: ChanteyMatt Date: 26 Jul 01 - 03:25 PM Hey, Mouse! Do you have enough room for all these crazies, I mean musicians? Potluck? How many loaves of bread will arrive? I'll be there but I'd loaf to bring something else. |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Thomas the Rhymer Date: 26 Jul 01 - 03:56 PM Hey, Amergin... got room for me? I live in NE now, and I would love to go with! I've been working too hard, 'doing what I love', and trying too hard at foolish love to go online for a while, so I am back... and single... ...and somewhat noteworthy. ttr |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Amergin Date: 26 Jul 01 - 05:15 PM Sure enough, TTR! Nice to see you around again! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: wysiwyg Date: 28 Jul 01 - 10:11 PM Having a wonderful time, wish I were there. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Benjamin Date: 28 Jul 01 - 10:52 PM I wish you could be there Susan! |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: wysiwyg Date: 28 Jul 01 - 11:02 PM Say hi to everyone for me OK? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: reggie miles Date: 29 Jul 01 - 01:59 PM Mousethief, I just spoke to friend, Bill Merwin, who's been to the Acoustic Cafe. He and his fiance Lyn have performed there a number of times as the Strangers in Paradise and have said they've had very nice experience. They've been playing with old and silly Hawaiian and jug band material. Bill mentioned an event there in Sumner next weekend. They've invited me to join them for about an hour to play music. Perhaps we'll saw there as well. |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mrrzy Date: 30 Jul 01 - 10:31 AM Sounds great... anybody else that's coming have children? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: mousethief Date: 30 Jul 01 - 03:06 PM I do! Alex |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Benjamin Date: 30 Jul 01 - 09:10 PM What constitutes for "Children" at this gathering? |
Subject: RE: Northwest Gathering From: Mrrzy Date: 30 Jul 01 - 09:17 PM Well, I was thinking people who'd be interesting to my boys, who are 6 (that is, there are 2 of them, each is 6, not there are 6 of them, whoa nellie). Not that they don't like grownups but nobody we're staying with has kids... |
