Does anybody know the words of the song "ready for the storm"? I can't find it in the listed songs and I'm not sure where I heard it and who sung it (but still it was a good song).

Thanks in advance

tulletje,

The song is called Ready for the Storm. It was written by Dougie Mac Lean. It is availabe on his CD The Dougie Mac Lean Collection, produced in 1995 by Putumayo label.

If you have Real Audio, a sample of the song is available HERE.

This is probably is most recorded song. I am sorry I don't know the words, but I bet someone on the 'Cat does.

Good luck with the song.

Roger in Baltimore

READY FOR THE STORM
Dougie MacLean

O the waves crash in and the tide pulls out
It's an angry sea but there is no doubt
That the lighthouse will keep shining out
To warn the lonely sailor
And the lightning strikes and the wind cuts cold
Through the sailor's bones to the sailor's soul
Till there's nothing left that he can hold
Except the rolling ocean

Chorus:

But I am ready for the storm, yes sir ready
I am ready for the storm, I'm ready for the storm

Give me mercy for my dreams
For every confrontation seems
To tell me what it really means
To be this lonely sailor
But when the sky begins to clear
And the sun it melts away my fear
I'll cry a silent weary tear
For those that need to ove me

Chorus

But distance it is no real friend
And time it takes its time
But you will find that in the end
It brings you me the lonely sailor
But when you take me by your side
You love me warm, you love me
And I should have realized
I had no reasons to be frightened

Chorus

I really like the Kathy Mattea recording of this song. -Joe Offer

Geert, what roger suggested is that you download the free RealPlayer (click here) software so you can play recordings that are available in many places on the Web. The latest version of RealPlayer needs Windows 95, but there are other versions that will work in more primitive systems. You can even e-mail RealPlayer songs to people.
