Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: redsnapper Date: 11 Jul 06 - 06:03 AM Hi Azizi, Question 115 is a real one (I posted it). There are many attendees of Mudcat EuroGatherings who would know the answer (it has become a kind of "traditional" leg-pull and there is even annoted photographic evidence in the "events" section of the Mudcat photos!). Clue: You might find such an item in the wild forests of North America/Canada, Europe or Siberia. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: Azizi Date: 10 Jul 06 - 08:34 AM Sorry about the goobly gook in that other post. As I've said before-I hate proof-reading. But especially since I'm Russian*, typos and gobblygook are bound to happen. * I bet you all didn't know that I was Russian, eh? ;O)) |
Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: Azizi Date: 10 Jul 06 - 08:25 AM Also, when a question has been posted for "some" time, and no one has guessed the correct answer, or no one has posted any responses, it night be helpful if a clue is posted. For instance: It's a fac that the the merry month of May and the blessed month of June have passed and no one has guessed the correct response to this question: 172. Which Mudcatter's name is the name of an American children's handclap rhyme and part of the name of an European wedding song? **** So here's {some more} clues: This European wedding song is still sung now {at least a year or so ago I heard Seamus sing it when I attended a session he did in Pittsburgh. PA} and my mother or some one else taught me the handclap rhyme. And this Mudcatter's name was listed on that "Mudcatter Met" thread {though I confess that I've not seen the name in many current threads}... It seems to me that I've thrown out enough clues that someone with his or her thinking cap on-not to mention buckles down his or her back-should get this answer now. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: Azizi Date: 10 Jul 06 - 08:13 AM Also-I'm wondering at which point should the person who posed the question ask others if they 'give' [up], and the person then provides the correct answer. Also, there are some questions that I'm not sure are 'for real' or for joke or rhetorical. For instance, this question: 115. Which Mudcatter has (purportedly) slept through every Mudcat EuroGathering so far? (no initials) No answer has been posted for it-correct or otherwise. Is this a insider joke question or does the person who posted it really want an answer {is there even a for real answer?} And if so is it time for the person who posted it to provide the answer? ]for reaoon a number of occassionsI'm not sure which question For instance, was this qpost' and th [mpthjertehere's a qwuesa |
Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: Azizi Date: 10 Jul 06 - 08:07 AM Here's a Humble Request: When someone gets the correct answer to a question, would the person who posed that question please indicate that [For example, see Alice's 09 Jul 06 - 02:46 PM post and catspaw49's 09 Jul 06 - 08:51 PM post etc. Others have also done so on this thread and the first Name that Mudcatter thread]. This is particularly helpful when the questions are either culturally based or based on past Mudcat experiences. For instance, I gather that Guest 10 Jul 06 - 05:05 AM is saying that Teribus 10 Jul 06 - 01:17 AM was incorrect in his response to the question "No longer on the market, John Player thought so much of this member (as I also do) that they printed his name in gold letters on a green and white packet". But I'm not sure about that- in part {or in whole}- because I have no idea what "John Player {no longer on the market}" was. Affirming that an answer is correct-when given- will make the work of compiling an edition of the Guide To The Perplexed easier for me or whoever else volunteers to do so as I [or that person] will be less perplexed by the responses to the questions. **** Btw, I will not be able to compile the next edition of that guide until Tuesday night. If anyone else wants to do it before then, that would be great! If not, I do it then. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: catspaw49 Date: 09 Jul 06 - 08:51 PM You're exactly right Carol! Well done......RE: #7, the Aussie 'Catter was murray and he accidentally wrote pitchfork for tuning fork once .....and things went downhill from there. We miss them all.......... As for the Tale of the Imploding Pedro, here is the way Rick told it. I alwyas thought it would be a great scene in a sitcom!!! "Each of my 12 strings has it's own little memory but the worst was "Pedro" the Mexican built beauty that I bought when I was about twenty. The salesman said it was built to be tuned to pitch and I foolishly believed him. Now the problem was that my girlfriend at the time felt (justifiably so) that we should be saving our money, so when I purchased "Pedro" I snuck him into a closet for the night, planning to tell her about it the next day.(after I had thought up some story to justify my purchase) About 5am, a noise like a bazooka woke everyone up with a start in our communal rooming house. People were searching everywhere for the source of the explosion......but in my heart I knew what it was. I let someone else find the broken pieces of wood and wire, but I had to own up to it. Needless to say I got yelled at, AND lost Pedro one day after buying him!" Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: Azizi Date: 09 Jul 06 - 08:50 PM Little Hawk, I thought that was the response someone gave to that question in the first thread. I guess that question goes back into the correct answer needed category. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: Azizi Date: 09 Jul 06 - 10:17 AM Alice, thanks for that link also. I don't recall reading these threads, but I thought of this game after awakening from a dream. So maybe I actually did read those threads when I was sleeping. :o) Of course, there's nothing unique about this game. And needless to say, its title is based on the "Name That Tune" tv show. But I kinda like the idea that I may have read those archived Mudcat game threads in another dimension and then came back to revive them with a new game name and with some light hearted Wizard of Oz/Kung Fu references thrown in... But then again, maybe I won't make any Wizard of Oz references in this thread. On this thread, maybe I'll just be me and not the mighty Z [and maybe not]. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name That Mudcatter II From: Alice Date: 09 Jul 06 - 10:00 AM Azizi, you know, it has been so many years that I've been on Mudcat that my aging brain is starting to forget those marvelous early threads. Test Your Mudcat IQ back in 1999 was a first version of your Name That Mudcatter. I agree with spaw in that I am amazed that something like farts would be what he is remembered for! In reading your "name that" thread, I thought, well this will tell each of us what kind of legacy we have left here.... or not. It will tell us how much of our contribution is lost in the past of Mudcat and not known to current posters. I've been on Mudcat since 1998, and still read it each day. It has changed very much over the years. Most here don't even seem to know me anymore. |
