Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: IanC Date: 11 Mar 05 - 04:30 AM Sorry, I've been down with the office flu all week so haven't been around. Does anyone have any comments on, or information about any of the nominees? Also, do we have the results of the Miskin eliminator for the HORIZONTAL AWARD? :-) Ian |
Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: IanC Date: 03 Mar 05 - 04:16 AM Mudcat 2005 Alternative British Folk Awards - Nominations Accepted! THE COMMITTEE has met and the following nominations have been accepted (please PM me if there are any omissions which you feel need to go in at this stage and THE COMMITTEE will consider them).NOTE ... voting for the Horizontal Award this year is complicated by the fact that a number of the participants appear to have agreed to take part in an "eliminator" at Miskin on the weekend of the 4th - 6th March 2005. Your vote may be wasted if you vote for a nominee before the eliminators have been undertaken (!) GET VOTING!!! :-) Ian |

Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: Hawker Date: 26 Feb 05 - 04:47 PM I'll second Cats on Alan White and Andy Jackson. Both tireless in their efforts and worthy of the accolade! Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: GUEST Date: 26 Feb 05 - 01:32 PM My nomination would have to be Archie Fisher, as I can't make out a word he says. It drives me daft, when I'm trying to get a CD title or information on a performer. Maybe somebody could send him a new set of false teeth...Ake |
Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: GUEST,banzai Date: 25 Feb 05 - 07:57 PM From: eric the red Date: 28 Jan 05 - 12:23 AM You forgot a nomination for the worst presenter of folk music on the radio EVER. Obviously only one nomination, Mike Hardly, oops Harding. dear eric - i cant support these remarks about mike - in fact i think you are must be having a fool's interlude to say that. Dont you think Mike knows the ropes and the score. He knows and loves what happens at grass roots level. He mans the widest media opportunity to entice people into the genre with laudible discernment given commercial criteria that allow it to be there at all. People move from his programme to exploring folk clubs and their own desire to hear and contribute to live self-entertainment. Get real dude! |
Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 19 Feb 05 - 08:20 AM Would come to the eliminator at Miskin but i'll be practising being horizontal in Barnsley that weekend but I've got to say that I'm chuffed to be mentioned gosh even choked ( I think I'll have a Gweneth Paltrow moment at t'wards ceremony) |
Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: Cats Date: 18 Feb 05 - 04:57 PM For Life Time Achievement Awards I cannot split the nomination so I'll nominate two of the most dedicated folkies I know and both for the same reason. They have both given their lives to helping others find and enjoy folk music. Andy Jackson, who runs Miskin Festival and Alan White who runs Wareham Wail (and Sidmouth campsite). If anyone has ever been to either of these events you'll understand why and if you haven't... well isn't it about time you did? It's people like this who keep the tradition alive and well and make sure it is passed on to the next generation. Andy and Alan... |

Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: George Papavgeris Date: 15 Feb 05 - 03:20 PM Glad to know that I am not the only facetious "foot in mouth" catter. GUEST's statement is downright libellous and its publication in Mudcat can render this forum liable. I'll ask Joe Offer to delete the post - if that's OK with Shambles, that is. |

Subject: RE: Alternative British Folk Awards 2005 From: Mary Humphreys Date: 31 Jan 05 - 02:26 PM F & Bflat are quite OK for an English ( or Duet) concertina player, but a bit of a pig for an Anglo. Anahata is one of the few people I know who can play in such keys. The 10-year-old fiddler - I wish we knew his name - said he had learnt the tunes from recordings. If he's at Whitby again this year,he'll probably be running a workshop..... |
