Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: Celtaddict Date: 08 May 11 - 08:26 PM Also, Larry Kaplan--yes, THE Larry Kaplan, of 'Old Zeb' and 'Song for Gale' fame--is doing a house concert on Friday May 13 as a benefit for the Sea Music Festival. See the thread! And if someone knows how to link to another thread I would really appreciate it. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: Celtaddict Date: 08 May 11 - 08:24 PM Dave Littlefield has not 'resigned'---he retired; better reason for a party, and he does still turn up there and on the Mystic Whaler. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: Charley Noble Date: 08 May 11 - 11:49 AM ChanteyLass- Happy to hear that David L. is still involved in the Sea Music Festival and as an occasional shanty singer at the Sea Port itself. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: ChanteyLass Date: 08 May 11 - 03:11 AM Hardly anything I can think of, Charley! I spent Saturday at the seaport. Usually when I'm there on my own I go to all the demos that include music. In between I go to exhibits. I want to see Skin & Bones, which is about sailors' tattoos. However, today I was with my son and three grandchildren (7, 4, turning 2 today) while my daughter-in-law worked on a project. We had a great time and they were well-behaved (not perfect), but I did a lot more walking than I've done since my surgery. David I. was the official chantey singer, but Denise was also on the demo squad and lending her lovely voice to the songs. They were talking about reviewing songs to get ready to perform at the festival. Did you know David L. has resigned? I understand he still subs and is helping Geoff with the festival. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: Charley Noble Date: 07 May 11 - 09:50 AM ChanteyLass- I've also found jury pool secretaries quite willing to postpone jury duty for serious reasons, and what could be more serious than attending the Mystic Sea Music Festival? Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: ChanteyLass Date: 06 May 11 - 11:22 PM I will try for a postponement. I do have the print-out of the confirmation of my hotel reservation that I can present. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: GUEST,heavenly twin 1 Date: 06 May 11 - 01:57 PM Chantey Lass...Ask for a postponement for jury duty. I do it all the time. In CT we can postpone for up to six months. I have always gotten my suggested alternate date. Good luck |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: GUEST,heavenly twin 1 Date: 06 May 11 - 01:54 PM Good to see chatter again and know others are counting the days like we are. Pam and I were excited with the performers' info although we knew most it through Chantey Lass...thank you. See you all in about a month |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: ChanteyLass Date: 05 May 11 - 11:38 PM Ah, but will there be food and drinks available for purchase by spectators at ALL the evening concerts? This was a problem last year. On Thursday evening I had not eaten anything expecting to buy something on the grounds. I figured that was one way to support the seaport and the festival. Instead, I went hungry. Grrr. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: Charley Noble Date: 05 May 11 - 07:32 AM Real food prepared by real people, or at least by very convincing "people." Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: sciencegeek Date: 05 May 11 - 05:39 AM And more good news for performers & volunteers.... no more craziness just to get a chance for rubber chicken dinners or crumbs for lunch... we're going back to the original system of feeding ourselves. So remember to very, very nice to Anna Marie & the kitchen crew... LOL... |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: Charley Noble Date: 04 May 11 - 10:26 PM Geoff's been working feverishly on the matrix, so he mentioned the other day. Reminder to all performers, the deadline is coming up to send in your vendor information for your CDs, songbooks, and underwear. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: ChanteyLass Date: 04 May 11 - 08:43 PM I keep checking the seaport's website to see if there is any news. So far, nothing. There may be a change in my schedule, though. Today I got a notice to report for possible jury duty on May 31! Sure hope they won't need me on June 10, but if they do I hope I'll know far enough in advance to change my reservation without being charged for May 9. I would still attend that evening's concert, but a very tired ChanteyLass would arrive at the courthouse on June 10! |

Subject: RE: Mystic Sea Music Festival 2011 line-up From: Charley Noble Date: 29 Mar 11 - 09:16 AM Chantey Lass- We're certainly looking forward to being there again. The last time we were featured as a group was back in 2006. We're hoping that our new CD Look Out! will merit some attention: Click here for website! It's a combination of traditional shanties, poems by C. Fox Smith and old sailor poets adapted for singing, and some contemporary nautical songwriters. I'll also bring my two songbooks for sale: Sea Songs of Cicely Fox Smith and Uncommon Sailor Songs. And we do have a pirate song or two! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
