Well, I take it that all of us are in favour of freedom of speech, provided it's not calculated to change our western way of thought. I'm all for freedom of speech myself, Swann too has fought a lifetime fighting against censorship. I must say we do feel that perhaps the whole field of literature and the arts has got a little too uninhibited lately, wouldn't you say. I mean, modern plays and films and books and so on; there doesn't seem to be anything you can't say nowadays in public. You can say things in public that you would hesitate to say in private. These four letter words and so on. I am very much opposed to this. There are very few of these four letter words left. If they all come into common use, we shall have nothing left for special occasions. No one should be censored...by anyone (regardless of how well meaning that person is). Censorship is akin to pornography... It leads to oppression, power trips, and bondage.. And it refutes another's right to present an opposing argument. I think this guest (flamer) has been very well dispatched by the Mudcatters he has addressed (you raised us well, Joe)... And..I would much rather read his remarks about "what's wrong with porn" than those I encountered on the thread: "The last thing I wanted to read.." (The fued between two mudcatters, Brendy & Praise) but I read all... My right to know, respond if I choose, and have an opinion. We are all adults here and do not need to be protected from the bad things of the world.. From the responses I have read, I think we are quite capable of protecting ourselves.. (no offense intended to Joe Offer, who is a good dude). As for our "Flaming Guest," who seems to have nothing better to do than look at dirty picture and pet it up, why don't you take up the harp instead? They say it's theraputic! As for porn, some people use it to fulfill a need / desire. I assume it's mostly single people. It is unfortunate that some people can't find that "someone special" to share this part of life. However, some unfortunate souls, for whatever reason, don't connect with a soulmate and use porn as a substitute. Hey man, whatever gets you through the day. Life is hard enough without a mate... life without ANY sex or sexual stimulation would be just going through the motions... so to speak... nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

I think it totally depends. Naked cheerleaders is one thing (assuming they are adult). Even then, I think it has sorry effects upon relationships, development, marriage, family, etc. When pornography is involving children, or is linked with violence or degradation of people, it is way way beyond that and every law enforcement effort and public disapproval should be called upon to eradicate it. mg

The problem with porn is that it purports to be reality, but it is fantasy. Thus it makes people expect fantasy in real life, and thus disappoints them, making them in a sense sexually unfit for real life. Unless the fantasy is a violent one, in which case (alas!) they are able to make the fantasy real by themselves.
