Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: alanww Date: 12 Aug 08 - 02:18 PM Ooooh! I'm getting excited! And I'm optimistic too, as my campervan, complete with its heart transplant, managed to get me to Sidmouth FF and back! I'm starting the trip up tomorrow ... Raggytash: Looking forwaard to the train trip and please put my name down for the boat trip! Geoff & Jane Duck: Congratulation on 10 years - brill! Mick McGarry: Forget about the inhospitality of Warwick FF. See you at your session, if not before. Geoff Duck: Probably see you at the scratch morris. Jane Duck: Is John Connolly really doing the shanty spot with Jim Maggean? Surely, he's more of a ballad man and what about Greame Knights? "... and cider are England's control!" Alan |

Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Raggytash Date: 12 Aug 08 - 08:49 AM The Glaisdale train will be running again on Sunday 17th, assemble at the station at 12.35ish. Arrive Glaisdale just after 1pm, normal format as always and the now traditional raffle and whip round for the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat. If anyone would like to donate a raffle prize it would be much appreciated. Return train leaves Glaisdale about 4.25 arriving back in Whitby just before 5pm. NEWS FLASH>>>....... Tuesday we've organised a trip to Staithes on the Esk Belle, Whitby's biggest and best pleasure boat. We've been offered a concession on the normal fare so if you get a ticket from us you can travel at a reduced rate. It's one hour at sea up to Staithes, one hour ashore and one hour back (All approx). Polish up your nautical (or even naughtycal)songs. This is limited availability due to passenger limits on the Esk Belle. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: GUEST,Diva Date: 12 Aug 08 - 07:56 AM I;m going this year...first time ever. I suppose it comes under the to do list in the othr thread. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Northerner Date: 11 Aug 08 - 12:36 PM A badge would be nice... Not sure how many Mudcat things I'll get to this year as I will be performing in the main festival, as a storyteller. When I'm not performing I'll probably be back in the my guest house resting. I really have valued the support that other Mudcat members have given me - I particularly enjoyed the trips to Glaisdale. I'll be performing at the Half Day at the Bay on the Monday afternoon if any Mudcat members fancy a trip out of Whitby. Robin Hoods Bay is very pretty. Diane Taylor |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 10 Aug 08 - 02:53 PM According to the Whitby programme Jim is doing the sessions on his own until Friday when John Conolly joins him. |

Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: old git Date: 10 Aug 08 - 07:41 AM Congrats Jane and Geoff BTW John Conolly doesn't do the shanty sessions with Jim (your post of 6 Aug) It's Graeme Knights. I should be there from Tuesday geoff t |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Aug 08 - 03:41 PM I shall be there for the whole week this year, and I look forward to seeing you all. It will be nice to see Dick and Susan again too. BTW Lynn Heraud and Pat Turner send their regards to all whom they know, they shan't be there this year sadly. John MacKenzie |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Dennis the Elder Date: 08 Aug 08 - 04:28 PM Thanks everyone for the information regarding the T shirt, I am sure I will be able to get one. Just had a wonderful meal on the sea front in Beirut at the Hotel Riviera, only around 25 degrees C at 11.00pm. Many of your compatriots here Susan, many working for UN or similar organisations. Beirut is a place not to miss. Thanks Mrs Duck If I do not manage to get one Mudcat site I will see Bill at the craft fair Thanks again |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Aug 08 - 03:47 PM If Bill is running his usual music stall at the craft fair he may well have some tee shirts with him. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Susan of DT Date: 08 Aug 08 - 12:05 PM Bill Sables handles mudcat teeshirts in the UK and Dick and I handle them in the US. See the Mudcat site map for tee shirt info and picture from the dropdown at the top of the main forum page. The picture is Max wearing one of the original teeshirts - we changed the color to navy since the one you see in the picture does not have enough contrast to be seen outside. There are also some red teeshirts. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 08 Aug 08 - 11:57 AM ..... but I will be in Whitby for the festival so I'll see what they look like "in the flesh"! |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 08 Aug 08 - 11:55 AM haven't actually tried ordering one myself |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Dennis the Elder Date: 08 Aug 08 - 11:23 AM This may be a silly and probably much repeated question, "How do I get a Mudcat shirt?" and do who ever supplies them deliver to Beruit where I am working at the moment? Only joking, I am actually back in Yorkshire in two weeks time. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Aug 08 - 10:59 AM No sorry no scandal - just reference to his being in disguise in above post. My things aren't colourful enough for him lol. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: mouldy Date: 08 Aug 08 - 05:21 AM I'll be there, as usual, squeezing all the right notes, but probably in the wrong order! Must remember to take Mudcat shirt this year. Jane - care to elaborate? Or is it a secret to be whispered later? Andrea |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 08 Aug 08 - 03:57 AM Song for you Geoff Lacy things, wife is missin' didn't ask .....permission I'm wearing her clothes ... silk pantihose walkin' round in womens underwear |

Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 07 Aug 08 - 05:59 PM (Geoff in disguise) Usually it's the dancers who know the tune and the musicians off the ground... Oh Well''' Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Wyrd Sister Date: 07 Aug 08 - 05:06 PM That's fighting talk, Les! |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Les from Hull Date: 07 Aug 08 - 03:46 PM I will be featuring with l'Orchestre Superscratch as usual, as will Maggie if she is free of other commitments. We could use some dancers that can actually get off the ground and some players who actually know the tunes! |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 07 Aug 08 - 03:08 PM The Scratch will be out dancing as usual on Monday, Wednesday and Friday along with the 'legendary' Megascratch band. Any Cotswold men and musicians welcome, sort of 'Shaky legs and eggs'. Usually meet at the Plough yard at 1pm. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Susan of DT Date: 07 Aug 08 - 07:00 AM So no meeting - just run into people in the streets and at events. We don't spend a lot of time in the pubs, because they are so jammed. We definitely go to the ballad workshop every day at 1. We will be wearing mudcat shirts just about all the time. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: theleveller Date: 07 Aug 08 - 06:29 AM Could have lots of fun poo-spotting - trying to put a name to the faeces. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: gnomad Date: 07 Aug 08 - 04:44 AM Yeah, the harbour area was pretty whiffy on Tuesday, and the news that it is being handled by Yorkshire Water, Scarborough BC + Environment Agency is not reassuring (any one of those alone can make a hash of things) but we had a good downpour Wednesday pm and that should help. I will be here, but working some of the time so won't get to many events. I hope to meet up with plenty of old acquaintances, just don't be surprised if I have to dash off. Query: does work gear count for bad shirt contest entries? |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Paul Burke Date: 07 Aug 08 - 03:54 AM I hope the poo has cleared up by the end of next week.... |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 07 Aug 08 - 03:41 AM Mrs Duck, Mick McGarrys sessions will follow on from the sessions that follow on from the Shanty sessions. Mick will be leading from about 5pm onwards (I think) |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Dennis the Elder Date: 06 Aug 08 - 04:17 PM I hope it will be the open sessions, as it was earlier this year, certainly looking forward to it if it is. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 06 Aug 08 - 02:48 PM I presume these are not the shanty sessions led by Jim Megean and John Connolly which take place every afternoon. They are usually in the Endeavour. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: GUEST,Charliestu Date: 06 Aug 08 - 05:17 AM The sessions in the Endeavour are being lead by Mick McGarry from Punch the Horse. Also quality sessions at the First In Last Out (FILO) at night Monday - Fri. |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: mouldy Date: 04 Aug 08 - 02:07 PM Shall be there as usual. Bound to see some of you around. Hell's teeth, Jane & Geoff - 10 years! I've just looked 10 years up: "Traditional 10th wedding anniversary gifts have a theme of Aluminium and Tin. A contemporary or modern 10th anniversary gift has a theme of Diamond Jewellery. The flowers associated with the 10th anniversary are Daffodils The Gemstone list shows Black Onyx associated with this Wedding Anniversary"... ...Whitby Jet MIGHT suffice. after all, it's not the first time you two have used it to celebrate a romantic event, is it?! ;-) Andrea |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: le cheffie Date: 04 Aug 08 - 01:25 PM It was my choice to use the weeks holiday as it would have been paid but my boss wants a sick note. Suppose it will save her £300.00 but now leaves me skint again., |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: r.padgett Date: 04 Aug 08 - 03:23 AM Well done John and Dorothy! These two are probably the most knowledgeable time served folkies with memories to boot! I am probably the only one to recognise the nickname Ray |
Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: Dave Roberts Date: 03 Aug 08 - 08:04 PM 'Song & Story' aka Monologue John Bartley and Dorothy Fryman are going to be there. Subject: RE: Whitby 2008 From: le cheffie Date: 03 Aug 08 - 02:42 PM Jane et al I am on an enforced weeks holiday this week with the dreaded chicken pox, so it looks like for the first time in many years I won't be at whitby at all.
