Subject: RE: What was the first record you bought? From: Ian Burdon Date: 20 Feb 08 - 03:43 PM My first LP was Abbey Road by the Beatles and yes I do still play it from time to time. The second was Pink Floyd's A Nice Pair First 45 was either Jean Genie or Mama Weer All Crazee Now |
Subject: RE: What was the first record you bought? From: Geoff Wallis Date: 20 Feb 08 - 03:42 PM The Springfields' 'Island of Dreams', though I think I won it at a local fete. Whatever the case, it was pretty useless as we didn't have a record player until 1967 and then I bought Fleetwood Mac's 'dustbin' album. |
Subject: RE: What was the first record you bought? From: Becca72 Date: 20 Feb 08 - 03:35 PM I don't remember the first one I bought myself, but I remember the first album I ever got...convinced my great aunt to buy it for me. Ace Frehley in 1977 when the 4 members of KISS each put out a separate album. I was 5 :-) |

Subject: RE: What was the first record you bought? From: Jack Campin Date: 20 Feb 08 - 03:28 PM Either: - Bach's Suite no 1 in C and Triple Concerto in A minor, London Baroque conducted by Karl Haas - Orff's Carmina Burana, can't remember who by, but the one with the amazingly weird tenor. |
Subject: RE: What was the first record you bought? From: MissouriMud Date: 20 Feb 08 - 03:23 PM First 45 rpm was probably "26 Miles" by the Four Preps. First 33 rpm was probably the Kingston Trio's First Album. Before that I had to get by on either things my folks bought me (Burl Ives) or things I borrowed from my brothers (The Weavers). I don't have any of the records any more (disappeared in the purge of '97) and I don't play 26 Miles any more, but I do occasionally play some of the Burl Ives, Weavers and Seeger songs from those early albums. I keep getting annoying red lines under my words - like I cant spell |

Subject: RE: What was the first record you bought? From: Little Hawk Date: 20 Feb 08 - 03:05 PM No idea. My parents were buying the same folk stuff that I liked when I was a youngster (Baez, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Ian & Sylvia, the Weavers, Judy Collins, etc), so I can't clearly recall who it was who bought those early albums in the first 10 years...me or them. But the first one I really can REMEMBER buying myself was Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited". That was tantamount to a revelation as far as I was concerned. I can clearly remember the first time I put it on the turntable and heard the opening chords of "Like A Rolling Stone". |

Still have it. Remember the shop in Gloucester Road, Malmesbury. The first LP was "Please Please Me" Beatles 1963. Still have it. Rog |
