My first LP was Abbey Road by the Beatles and yes I do still play it from time to time. The second was Pink Floyd's A Nice Pair

First 45 was either Jean Genie or Mama Weer All Crazee Now

The Springfields' 'Island of Dreams', though I think I won it at a local fete. Whatever the case, it was pretty useless as we didn't have a record player until 1967 and then I bought Fleetwood Mac's 'dustbin' album.

I don't remember the first one I bought myself, but I remember the first album I ever got...convinced my great aunt to buy it for me. Ace Frehley in 1977 when the 4 members of KISS each put out a separate album. I was 5 :-)

Don't recall the first 45, but the first LP was Peter, Paul & Mary, "Lemon Tree."

'This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both of Us' by Sparks. Ex-jukebox, from the local newsagent, big hole in the middle, 10p.

Either:
- Bach's Suite no 1 in C and Triple Concerto in A minor, London Baroque conducted by Karl Haas
- Orff's Carmina Burana, can't remember who by, but the one with the amazingly weird tenor.

First 45 rpm was probably "26 Miles" by the Four Preps.   First 33 rpm was probably the Kingston Trio's First Album. Before that I had to get by on either things my folks bought me (Burl Ives) or things I borrowed from my brothers (The Weavers).   I don't have any of the records any more (disappeared in the purge of '97) and I don't play 26 Miles any more, but I do occasionally play some of the Burl Ives, Weavers and Seeger songs from those early albums.

I keep getting annoying red lines under my words - like I cant spell

No idea. My parents were buying the same folk stuff that I liked when I was a youngster (Baez, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Ian & Sylvia, the Weavers, Judy Collins, etc), so I can't clearly recall who it was who bought those early albums in the first 10 years...me or them. But the first one I really can REMEMBER buying myself was Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited". That was tantamount to a revelation as far as I was concerned. I can clearly remember the first time I put it on the turntable and heard the opening chords of "Like A Rolling Stone".

Quite right, good thread Rog, but how many of you still sometimes play (albeit on CD) the first music you ever bought?.

After "Robin Hood/Davy Crockett" by Dick Jamnes it was "Rock Around The Clock" and Lonnie Donegan's
"Lost John/Stewball" Happy Days.

The Kinks Greatest Hits. But I had already gained custody of my older brothers LP's: PP and M, Kingston Trio, the Brothers Four and Joan Baez.

"Magical Mystery Tour" double EP by the Beatles. I got it for six shillings in the budget rack in Callington, Cornwall in 1968.

Single: Alternate Title by The Monkees
LP: Smash Hits by Jimi Hendrix

Well spent paper round money I thought at the time. Took me a month to save up.

I don't believe anyone who says their first record was a folk record unless they are called Copper or something. :)

Mine was "Hard Headed Woman" Elvis Presley 1958.

I remember the shop next door to Woolworths in Cirencester where I bought it.

It was a very brittle '78' which eventually got broken.

The first '45' was "Living Doll" Cliff Richard 1959. cost 6s.8d. Still have it. Remember the shop in Gloucester Road, Malmesbury.

The first LP was "Please Please Me" Beatles 1963. Still have it.

Rog
