Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Jan 04 - 05:28 PM The last time I was up your way was back in the bad old days when an old friend had The Blackwell Ox in Carlton in Cleveland . So far no body seems to be offering work that week end so I hope I will be there Friday afternoon. |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: magician Date: 23 Jan 04 - 04:25 PM Update As Requested:- I had a double bypass 7 weeks ago. On Tuesday I saw the Consulant Surgeon who said that he dosen't want to see me again professionally. I opend the Pub last Friday and did three hours on the bar, on thursday I did the 6 till 8 evening shift and tonight the 5 till 7 shift. I've sent Clare to bed because she seems to be coming down with the 'flue that I am almost recovered from so am in charge tonight myself. I went out for a couple of hours by myself last night to the Abbey for a drink with Brian the landlord there. As long as I don't overdo things (which I have a tendancy to do) I am managing quite well. I get tired quite easily so am having to take things gently (no sniggering Tig). I will reply to all who have PMed or E-mailed over the weekend with confirmations. Looking forward to seeing you all at Valentines, Daffydd |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Nick Date: 23 Jan 04 - 02:47 PM I'll send you a PM if that's ok. Not to be coy but until it's definite that the pub can do it - and that depends on what is involved and expected - I'd hate to cause any embarrassment on any fronts. I'll send you a PM and if it's ok to talk on the phone I'll give you a number as it's easier than typing! |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Mrs.Duck Date: 23 Jan 04 - 11:28 AM Nick, a mudcat gathering is limited only by the space available to accomodate everyone. You wouldn't be stepping on anyones toes by organising a weekend, the more the merrier and the gatherings don't always attract the same crowds as festivals. They are a way to get to know people so noone should feel that they will be left out. A lot of us do know eachother now but many met for the first time at a mudcat gathering. As to the format, that depends on the venue. There are usually music and singing sessions, lots of drinking and if there is room we have had ceilidhs - we even had some belly dancing at the first Yorkshire gathering! Where in N.Yorks are you? Let us know what you are planning so we can keep a space in the diaries. |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Nick Date: 23 Jan 04 - 10:22 AM Excuse a few naive questions but - 1)What is involved in a mudcat gathering? 2)Is it open to anyone? Do a lot of people tend to come? Are there sessions or performances or what? 3)Is it a 'closed' thing with everyone knowing everyone else or are new people made welcome and able to get involved? 4) For some time the landlord of our local pub where we play has been thinking of organising a music weekend sometime in the summer. Is it possible to start up a Mudcat gathering or is that treading on people's toes as we are in North Yorkshire too? Thanks |

But things should be looking up on the Saturday, St Valantines Day, so Lunacy seems about right. Is it a Full Moon or is that just "Big T" wiffee looking for her Pink knickers? :-) |

Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Tyke Date: 12 Jan 04 - 07:20 PM I went along with Aaardvark on Friday Night to the regular Folk Club at the Globe. What a great pint of Beer I though I did not like Cameron's!! All the very best to Daffydd and Gillie for a well-kept pub and a well-kept pint of beer if you are in the area call in. They deserve all the support and customers that they will get, of that I have no doubt. Good Folk Club that was well attended it was well worth the drive out from Whitby. The Folk Club was well attended with a resident group and plenty of floor singers. Aaardvark (Mick Haywood) informed me that there used to be a Club there many years ago and that Vin Garbut used to be a regular at the club. I can recommend Guisborough and the Globe for a visit and a great night. I shall definitely be there in February even if it is Friday the 13th!!!! There was also talk of St Patrick Night with the Blether men my advice get there early! Book a B & B and don't Drink and Drive! Cos. you will want to drink the Beer. Happy New Year from Tyke |
Subject: RE: Feb Mudcat gathering Yorkshire From: Tig Date: 12 Jan 04 - 05:22 PM The Mudcat Watering Hole is The Globe, Northgate, Guisborough, North Yorkshire (or Cleveland if you like!). Guisborough is about 5 miles from Saltburn or 23 from Whitby for those who have festivaled at either place. It's the pub Magician (Daffydd) and Gillie (Clare) run in that town. Real ale, no jukebox, friendly locals, good acoustics. As far as I know things will kick off Friday evening and run all weekend. The pub number is 01287 201157 if you want to give them a ring. |
