Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Tyke Date: 20 Apr 07 - 01:01 PM This years Holmfirth Festival of Folk will be held on 11th, 12th, and 13th May 2007. There will be lots going on again, including concerts by Chumbawamba, The John Richards Band, Kate Bramley, Emily Druce, Gordon Tyrrall , Brian Peters , The Red Parrots and many many more. Workshops for all ages, a family Ceilidh led by the Good Egg Band and lots of Morris sides (including the famous Britannia Coconut Dancers from Bacup) are all adding to this great weekend of talent and fun. Holmfirth, heart of Last of the Summer Wine Country, will also be vibrant and entertaining with the usual lively musician sessions and sing-arounds found in the many pubs and hotels etc throughout the weekend. Local and nearly local bands; Old Man Pie, The Travelling Billberets and Free Sandwiches will doing their stuff and The Shellback Chorus will be filling the streets and venues with their powerful harmonies. This is a real village festival amongst some of the most stunning scenery of the Yorkshire Pennines . The fact that it is village based means that everything (including camping) is only a short stroll away. The abundance of excellent pubs, clubs, hotels, restaurants, take-aways, shops, B&Bs, and of course the festival concert venues etc makes this a very convenient, convivial and easy going festival with a really great friendly atmosphere. Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Cath Date: 20 Apr 07 - 05:09 AM To get back to the music! I went down to the Open Mic session at Number 11 last night and the range and quality of musicianship is just amazing. I left after 11.30 and they still hadn't managed to give everyone their allotted 2/3 numbers as there were so many performers. They are a venue during the festival and will have Jamie Smith and Ray Moore as guests on Friday and Kate Bramley and Craig Morgan Robson on Saturday night. James Cannon is running a young person's Open Mic on Saturday afternoon and that will be a brilliant session if last night's 'young people' are anything to go by. Anybody who suggests that live music is in decline and young people aren't coming forward needs to call in here and they will learn differently! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Tyke Date: 19 Apr 07 - 03:52 AM I think that there are some bit's of YouTube best left alone. I was refering to your Tea bag habits Soldier boy. I didn't want to be too direct in case you got upset. Then having replied in haste ended up owing me more free pint's. Sorry in a rush no time to proof read or spell check! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Soldier boy Date: 18 Apr 07 - 09:46 PM Tyke you still have'nt explained precisely what disgusting things people do with their tea bags. We are all waiting in anticipation. Is it really so X-rated? Can you give us a clue please or even, dare I say it, a short clip from YouTube? I promise to watch through only partially opened fingers and not to scream from the horror of it all. I've probably seen worse on the battlefield but I am still nervous about the spectacle you might reveal! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Cath Date: 18 Apr 07 - 05:39 PM Thanks for that timely reminder! We hadn't organised that. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Tyke Date: 18 Apr 07 - 04:25 PM I was thinking about becoming Tea Total till I found out all the disgusting things some people do with their Tea Bags. However as the named driver/ MC of the concerts in the Civic on the Saturday I will not be drinking much at all so I hope we have some bottled water for the artists? When all my duties are completed on Saturday I might manage one or two :-). |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Cath Date: 18 Apr 07 - 12:27 PM I think it would take more than me to do that Soldier Boy! Cath |

Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Cath Date: 18 Apr 07 - 05:10 AM Tyke. if you manage to drink all the pints that Soldier Boy has promised you will spend all your time horizontal and won't make it to carry out your duties!! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Soldier boy Date: 17 Apr 07 - 08:53 PM Think it's only you I have to placate Tyke. Looks like I'll need some deep pockets or else some cunning evasion tactics. Now then I wonder..... It's getting close now good people so please don't miss out on booking your concert tickets and camping space for one of the best festivals you will come across this year. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Tyke Date: 17 Apr 07 - 05:12 PM Cath could you please keep a tally for me of how many free pints Soldier boy has promised to buy me. I've lost count! Yes you did start the thread a bit early, Soldier boy, still when this one reaches to 200 we can start a new one. Then once we have recovered from what looks like being a brilliant Festival Weekend, even if your not one of the people Soldier boy has had to placate with Free Beer, we could start a Virtual Fantasy Festival guest thread. Using suggested guests with video footage. Put me down for Richard Thompson singing Beeswing! It's just a thought for now! Let's throw all our efforts into Supporting Holmfirth Festival. OK we might not have dropped enough hints to book camping and tickets before they sell out. Good reminder once again from Cath. For my part every time Soldier boy buys me a beer I'll put the money in a collection Bucket to support the Holmfirth Festival of Folk. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Cath Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:18 PM Very brief update from tonight's meeting - tickets for Chumbawamba are selling well so don't leave it too late and the camp site is filling up nicely so get yourself booked in if you haven't already done so. |

I have really enjoyed our banter and fun lots but we have strayed all over the place and the Festival is getting near so thought we should start to focus in on the actual event. I probably started the thread too early and fully appreciate Tykes input to keep it going. You are a true trooper Tyke and I know you always mean well. Meant no disrespect. Love you really!! And I will definately buy you a pint or two in The Nook. Promise! |

Tyke, I thought you spent your time climbing up the rigging and splicing main braces rather than venturing on to you tube!! The festival can't come soon enough to return you to whatever can be called normality. |

Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Soldier boy Date: 13 Apr 07 - 11:29 AM That's excellent news. I have been known to survive on only a liquid diet for days on end in The Nook but now I need something more substantial than a bag of nuts. Are they doing pork pies? |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: GUEST,andy Date: 13 Apr 07 - 08:27 AM Sorry that should read 'now doing food'. |

Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Cath Date: 10 Apr 07 - 10:49 AM Right I'm back from the continent and will be back to work on the finer details of the festival programme. I've enjoyed reading the ramblings on here while I've been away but it's back to Capt Sensible now!! Raymond - I've discovered lots of emails from you to an address that I don't use much and couldn't access while I was away so don't be offended that I didn't reply. I will do as soon as I get chance. Hope your weekend went well and the good weather has been booked for a month's time. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: dozy rozy Date: 05 Apr 07 - 02:02 PM Well all I'm saying about that is....give em coffee next time. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Tyke Date: 04 Apr 07 - 02:08 PM Don't go their dozy rozy when I did a search for Tea Bags on You Tube for some jolly film clip or other to blue clicky link. I was shocked at what I found about what some idiots did with Tea Bags. Hence no You Tube link to Tea Bags! I usually make a cup of tea for the security guards on the campsite when I get back from the Nook. It helps to keep them awake with it being so quite and peaceful on the Campsite last year. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: dozy rozy Date: 04 Apr 07 - 09:25 AM I've got some Egyptian spiced tea bags that are ever so posh.I shall put them in pride of place around your neck, oh marching drummer boy, when you are too inebriated to notice. And thats the only place I'm willing to hang them from. They're too good for anything else! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Soldier boy Date: 04 Apr 07 - 08:52 AM You are right Cath. Time for me and Tyke to end our jolly japes and concentrate on the Festival. Tyke is right. Holmfirth Festival of Folk really is a great festival. It is set in the the beautiful location of Holmfirth in the Holme valley. near Huddersfield,West Yorkshire,England. This is the setting for the ever popular TV series "Last Of The Summer Wine" made famous by the likes of Compo (bless him) and Nora Batty etc. This TV series has been shown all over the world. So if you come from the USA,Australia,Europe,Japan,Ireland etc etc why not come over to the festival and soak up the atmosphere. This is a friendly and community-based festival where you will be made very welcome. There's plenty of atmosphere to soak up with lots of concerts,Ceilidh, workshops, craft fairs, morris dancers in great abundance out on the streets and of course the ever-present musician sessions and sing-arounds in the pubs, wine bars and hotels. The Festival runs from FRI 11 to SUN 13 MAY 2007. Hope to see you there. I have been enjoying your jolly rambles from my French hideaway but will be heading back to God's own country at the beginning of next week to see what has been going on in my absence and get back to the job of sorting out a few practicalities on the Folk Festival front which is, after all, what this thread is supposed to be all about. Cath |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2007 From: Tyke Date: 04 Apr 07 - 07:19 AM The Festival has some Fire Extinguishers I filled them up with water last year. Soldier boy :-) Time to start and remind people what a great Festival Holmfirth is I think. |
