Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Genie Date: 31 Aug 12 - 01:56 PM Nah, Rap. He knows "Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond ..." and "Courtin' In The Kitchen" by heart too and does a bang-up job on them! But if you mean Bob Blue's "Eensy-Weensy Spider" parody of "Mary Ellen Carter," I'd vote for that one too. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Rapparee Date: 31 Aug 12 - 10:23 AM Amos, please sing "Itsy-bitsy Spider." You do it so well and so movingly, besides it being the only song you know. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: kendall Date: 31 Aug 12 - 08:57 AM I request that you do whatever you want to do. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: jacqui.c Date: 31 Aug 12 - 07:28 AM Amos - Song For A Winter's Night by Allan Taylor. If I remember rightly this is one that you know. |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Fortunato Date: 19 Aug 12 - 08:58 AM Oh, I forgot to mention, it may be that Kendall has inadvertently suggested a wholly unique workshop. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Fortunato Date: 19 Aug 12 - 08:55 AM Kendall, old chum, I admire talent in many bizarre forms, and your fecal proficiency, as stated above, would, if true, certainly qualify. I do hope 'spaw has read this thread, it's right up his, uh, alley. (I'll be moving along now.) |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: kendall Date: 18 Aug 12 - 03:33 PM Bobert, I could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and shit a better excuse than that! |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Janie Date: 17 Aug 12 - 07:31 PM Just registered! The bad news is Sum Yung Sun is unlikely to come. The good news is that is because he found a job! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Rapparee Date: 15 Aug 12 - 11:44 AM Sorry, gotta go back on Monday. Time TBA. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Rapparee Date: 15 Aug 12 - 10:32 AM I got me a powerful hankerin' to get to Getaway, only I need me a ride from BWI on Friday and come back on Monday. I plan to fly in late Thursday and fly back early Tuesday, iffen that would fit in with somebody's plans. I won't have my Sousaphone or anything with me 'ceptin' some changes of underwear and things other folks insist upon. Kin anybody help? I gotta make airyplane reservations right soon now. Thanky kindly. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Amos Date: 14 Aug 12 - 12:13 PM Oh, Napoleon BOnaparte! You're the cause of my woe! Can't wait to see y'all! Funny--I asked BBW what I should do in my wee half-hour of renown and she thought of Pancho and Lefty, too!! I don't think I would dare to the post-deconstructionist literary analytical version, though, Charlie... A |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Charmion Date: 14 Aug 12 - 08:06 AM Edmund and I are coming, barring international incidents and unignorable mandates to keep calm and remain at our desks. We have been booked to contribute to a workshop of songs about Napoleon and similarly famous historic figures, so we are also engaged in learning something new ... in six weeks flat! Just got back from the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, so Getaway is still a bit foggy in the forecast. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Charley Noble Date: 14 Aug 12 - 07:30 AM Amos- You might consider leading a "Lefty & Pancho" workshop. There is so much embedded in that song! So it goes, I suppose -- Charley Noble, back in Maine |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: ClaireBear Date: 13 Aug 12 - 03:25 PM You are a man of rare perspicacity, brother Amos. I've always thought so. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Amos Date: 13 Aug 12 - 03:16 PM I think Bobert is making 'skyiooses up but he may have real reasons as well. A |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: ClaireBear Date: 13 Aug 12 - 02:20 PM And Bobert, I am missing my OWN 40th high school reunion to come to the Getaway this year (after missing my 35th college one for last year's). You can't come because you are going to someone else's reunion a week later? What kind of sorry-ass reason is that? Just sayin'... |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Amos Date: 13 Aug 12 - 01:05 PM :D Crossing a dry county on a wet mule is no picnic, I am sure... |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: kendall Date: 13 Aug 12 - 01:03 PM Bobert, we have to cross three mountain ranges, 8 rivers, 7 states and 4 dry counties to get there. Come on! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Bobert Date: 13 Aug 12 - 11:36 AM Wrong weekend, Rap... I'll be in NoVa the "following" weekend... B~ |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Amos Date: 13 Aug 12 - 10:49 AM Better to be Bach again than never to have turned Bach at all Severn! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Severn Date: 13 Aug 12 - 02:47 AM I'll be back again this year |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: ClaireBear Date: 13 Aug 12 - 12:33 AM I'll be there; not nearly enough sleep deprivation in my life otherwise! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Rapparee Date: 13 Aug 12 - 12:28 AM NoVa ain't that far -- you could pick me up at BWI and we could go down together while the P-Vine parties with her classmates. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Bobert Date: 12 Aug 12 - 08:02 PM I'm going to have to take a pass this year... It's now 8 hours away by car and I've got to be in NoVa for P-Vine's class reunion the following weekend... B~ |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Nancy King Date: 12 Aug 12 - 07:24 PM Thanks,Janie -- a good reminder! Here's another point: due to limited space, we encourage you not to bring too much for the auction. Bring something, not everything! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Janie Date: 12 Aug 12 - 06:17 PM I'll start now mentioning the silent auction early and often. Bring something to contribute to the auction, and please check out the auction offerings and make a bid on something you might use or want. Doesn't have to be music related at all - but please, do not bring stuff to the auction that most reasonable people would agree is best tossed in the trash. Bizarre, tacky, "outdated", hidiobilia, tarnished, dusty, broken but repairable, etc. are fine and welcomed. But please, no soiled or stained cloth items, including stuffed animals, and no items absolutely festooned with dust bunnies or mold intermingled with mouse droppings, please. Just use a little common sense. If you have put out a cd or book and want to donate a copy or three to the auction, these items nearly always do well. The location of the auction at West River is not prime, and many people either don't realize the auction is there or easily forget about it, and there is not a pa system that allows for reminder announcements at meals, so please try to keep it on your internal radar screen. Even for folks traveling some distance on airplanes there is likely some small item you could contribute or some small item you could bid on that you can transport, to, from, or both. If you really can not bring something and find nothing at all of interest to bid on, consider making a small donation to the scholarship fund. Haven't checked with the FSGW folks on this, but expect you can make a donation through the auction, even if you don't make a bid on anything. Proceeds from the auction go toward the Getaway scholarship fund. In leaner days I have myself benefited from the scholarship fund, and these days there are many people living through lean times who would not be able to attend without some financial help. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: dick greenhaus Date: 12 Aug 12 - 03:14 PM As always. I've missed only one since '69. [And I have been coming with him since 1984 - S of DT} |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Amos Date: 12 Aug 12 - 02:53 PM Well, I am looking forward to another visit to the Enchanted Island with 'bated breath. Not too 'bated, of course, since it is still a month and more distant. Nancy delightfully asked me to do a half-hour shtick somewhere in the weekend, and I am open to suggestions as to what would best delight, short of declining :D. A |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Bill D Date: 12 Aug 12 - 12:22 PM We DO appreciate those who manage to make it... even if not every year.. from far away. (The Left Coast of the US is quite a trek, but several from there are close to getting their "regular" merit badge. And New England already has several merit badge holders.) Iceland, Guam, Oz, England, Israel...etc... have made it quite an event. We will miss everyone who can't manage this year. I have 'only' been coming since 1978, but 34 consecutive years ain't bad! (Oh, that tedious, wearing, hour-long drive..... ;>) |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: SINSULL Date: 12 Aug 12 - 10:58 AM Not this year. Used up my vacation time in the winter months. Next year. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Charley Noble Date: 12 Aug 12 - 10:01 AM JudyB and I are planning to come, and then continue on to Richmond and Norfolk for more music. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Leadfingers Date: 12 Aug 12 - 06:54 AM Sadly , lack of funds mean keeping the hovel vaguely habitable is more important the cost of a few days across the pond !! We NEED more paid Gigs ! LOL |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: artbrooks Date: 12 Aug 12 - 12:45 AM Jenn and I are coming, and our 30-something daughter is as well. See you all there!! (I need to reopen the "getting to the Getaway" thread) |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Nancy King Date: 11 Aug 12 - 11:56 PM We are indeed trying to encourage people to bring kids and grandkids, but it's tough. Both the economics of it and the demographics make it difficult. And of course there's a programming catch-22 as well: we want kids to come, so we're trying to plan some activities for them, but we don't know if any will come, so... Janie, if your son is looking for a job, it sounds like he's a "young adult" rather than a kid. He's welcome too! Hope people will let us know early on who's coming! The program planning is proceeding apace, and we have some fun stuff planned. We'll get it all put together in the next few weeks, and will let you know when the schedule is up. Y'all come! Nancy P.S. I've been to every Getaway since 1974! I think maybe Bob Clayton is the only one who's been to more. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Janie Date: 11 Aug 12 - 11:20 PM Hope there are lots of newcomers each year, and that the age of newcomers gets younger and younger every year! I confess to some conflicted emotions. My son -not a folkie but open to folk within his eclectic musical tastes - actually wants to come and I am willing to spring for his fee - but if he can come it means he has not yet found a steady job! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 11 Aug 12 - 09:36 PM I see a program planning thread, a getting-to-the-Getaway thread, and a mongol-post-from-Getaway-to-Canada thread, but no generic thread. So I guess this is it! Sheryl and I will be there. It's amusing to think that some of the 'Catters would probably consider me an established regular, even though I've only been attending since 1996. -- Gary |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2012 From: jacqui.c Date: 11 Aug 12 - 08:51 PM I'm even more of a newcomer - 2004. Right now we're planning on being there this year. |
