Shanteys were only sung on Merchant ships of English Origin ! Royal Navy used a fiddler to keep the work in time ! NO idea of what foreign ships might have done

I've heard it said that American military ships did not permit/need sailors singing shanteys to assist in coordinating the work.

I've heard this MANY times but, so far, no one has stepped forward with documentation.

Is there any documentation for this? Enquiring minds want to know. :-)
