"The heart has its reasons that reason does not know"

That's my best(bad) French. And I better get practicing. I'm going to Quebec this summer.

One of my favorite lines is in A NOBLEMAN'S WEDDING:
Oh Annie, lovely Annie, I knew you never loved me.
For your love and my love could never agree
I have separated you from your true lover
And that seperated the bark from the tree

Brían.

Life is a thump-ripe melon, so sweet and such a mess How perfect.

See the pyramids along the Nile, watch the sunrise from a tropic isle... See the marketplace in old Algiers, send me photographs and souvenirs... Fly the ocean in a silver plane, see the jungle when it's wet with rain... Some of my favorite lines from the Jo Stafford recording.

Thanks for refreshing this, Wizzy; a person could live on these words and images.

There are two slate gravestones in a small graveyard in York, Maine. Both are for women, and with a number of years in between, but I believe both markers are from the hand of the same stone cutter.

On each it was said:
"She lived desired and died lamented."

What more is there to aspire to?

I collect these...the covers of my journals are filled with them....

From a poem by Francis Thomas... "Angels keep their ancient places, turn but a stone and start a wing..."

From Richard II, I think... "Make dust our paper And with rainy eyes write sorrow On the bobom of the earth."

"The distant, disengaged eyes of the perennial wanderer." S. Morgan

"Holding on to resentment is like taking rat poison...and then waiting for the rat to die." A. Lamott

And from the incomparable Tom Waits... "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy."

Hmmmm...very hard to stop, once I get started....

Ed Trickett sings a song about a man who looks back on the past when he was a small boy listening to his Mother play the piano and sing. The line that gets me is:..and my manhood is cast down in a flood of remembrance, and I weep like a child for the past.

Kat, as you probably know, the "Blue rembered hills" is from A E Housemans " a Shropshire Lad" the poem is full of the most wonderfully wistful lines, here it is complete.

BLUE REMEMBERED HILLS
By
A.E. HOUSMAN (1859-19336

Into my heart an air that kills

From yon far country blows:

What are those blue remembered hills,

What spires, what farms are those?

This is the land of lost content,

I see it shining plain.

The happy highways where I went

And cannot come again.
