Subject: RE: Most Covered Song From: Bill D Date: 01 Jul 05 - 02:24 PM well....someone has just recently posted 'about' 75 versions of Scarborough Fair in newsgroups... |
Subject: RE: Most Covered Song From: Clinton Hammond Date: 01 Jul 05 - 02:23 PM Wild Rover... sure Though I did read some internet poll some time ago that said Whiskey In THe Jar was the most requested of the "Celtoid" Pub songs... Maybe that means it's the most covered too? Whiskey In The Jar, Wild Rover, Black Velvet Band, Drunken Sailor, Mary Mac, Sonnys Dream, Star Of The County Down... Sorta the big 'cheese-hits' that most or everyone around here covers to death... |
Subject: RE: Most Covered Song From: PoppaGator Date: 01 Jul 05 - 02:23 PM I believe that McCartney's "Yesterday" holds that distinction, and may be in the Guiness Book of World Records. At least, among non-public-domain songs subject to royalty payments, it's demonstrably the most frequently covered song. "Misty" is probably up there high on the list, like it or not. "Knocking on Heaven's Door"? I doubt that it's even the most covered Dylan song, or even in the top five or ten most-covered Bob numbers. I like it, too, sure, but what about "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Blowin' in the Wind," "Like a Rolling Stone," "Forever Young," "I Shall Be Released," etc.? |

Subject: Most Covered Song From: Le Scaramouche Date: 01 Jul 05 - 02:11 PM Out of idle curiosity, was wondering what people thought of as the most covered song (ones with a known author). Aside from Danny Boy, and perhaps, Irene Goodnight, I came up with Hoochie Coochie Man (Willie Dixon), First Time I Saw Your Face (Ewan MacColl) and Knockin on Heaven's Door (Bob Dylan). Any others? |
