Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: fiddler Date: 22 Jun 05 - 06:42 AM Yup I said that, If you have any comments or suggestioons other than - It was better before! Let the organisation know in writing in nice clear lucid terms - we are bears of very little brain you know - BTW I was only managing the camp site personally - nowhere near the top of the food chain at all. Glad you all enjoyed it but probably won't do it again until next year - sorry Andy |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: GUEST,Paul Barris. Date: 21 Jun 05 - 07:33 PM A Fantastic weekend of entertainment, can we do it all again next weekend by any chance? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 21 Jun 05 - 09:29 AM Thanks to all those who popped into the Mariner's Arms on Saturday afternoon, performers and spectators. We enjoyed our 'hot' session and look forward to being involved again next year. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: oombanjo Date: 21 Jun 05 - 03:57 AM Thank you all for your support in all the venues over the weekend, without it this type of event could not happen. What was most surprising and pleasing was the verity of guests/ festival proper folk who played and sang, the blues player who borrowed my guitar just blew us away, I'v seen him around for years and never seen him play. The chap with the white handlebar mustash WOW do some more next time. And my highlight of the festival, the family from Howden who sat through all Friday and Sat session and then opened up on Sunday with the eldest son doing Joe Browns, wouldn't it be Nice, his new CD is being promoted by Pete Brown Joe's son. Enough rambling again thanks to you all. Oombanjo,AKA the little bald chap in the corner. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Pistachio Date: 20 Jun 05 - 07:01 PM Friday Fringe in Hodgsons - Fantastic, easygoing evening that I couldn't bear to leave..credit to Les and Maggie...then off to sing on the steps until the birds took their turn. Saturday - thanks Roger-and Deanmeister - the Sun session was great as ever and it's always good to hear other singers versions of some favourites! Payday - thanks Pete. I chatted with the girl 'Taylor' (who performed 'Summertime') later in the day, Wow, did she enjoy her time in Beverley! She's promising to return. It was more than 'a tad warm' in the Memorial Hall on Saturday Ted, I was worried we'd have some casualties with the doors closed! The modernisation had better have Air Conditioning at the top of the list of things to be done...Whatever, back to the fringe and Hodgsons steps with the Ducks (Thanx Jane)and others till 'Morning has broken' then a brief sleep and on to gate duty so I'm sorry but I missed the Sunday afternoon fringe. Enjoyed the Monks'secret beer garden' session complete with 'the bells'- thanks Maggie and Les. Doghouse skiffle were just GREAT - so energetic and eccentric - 'a must-see band'....Kate Rusby - Wow, then - guess what - Hodgsons? where Oombanjo looked just a tad tired. Mrs O insisted that his 12 hour session really must come to an end, "Now" John! What an ace night again with Graham and Jo, Robin (left handed guitar),Roger,(fiddle), Carmen (voice), John (Hurt) Nixon....and others. And finally 'the steps' again, where we passed the hat round - and if 'the hat' was on 'your' head you had to sing! Dawn (nearly) and home all 1.7 miles! Thank you everyone. The late night/all night tent was mentioned a quite a few times Jane and Andy (Stewarding Team leader) says all suggestions are welcomed by the festival organisers - so send them in. !SOrry I just proof read this and I've gone on and on and on and! I'm really tired now and my throat is sore -(wonder why!) I'd better clear off. H. P.S.Thanks for the delicious jam and marmalade Sheila! |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: GUEST,John Rouse Date: 20 Jun 05 - 05:38 PM Although I went to Beverley again this year I'm afraid I didn't come to say hello, as I was having a rather emotional time of it, being as its only three weeks since Sue died, and she's always been there with me for the past ten years. My brother-in-law has been involved in the barge restoration project since it started, so I'm glad to see it being used for Folk Events - his sister first saw me at a folk event (Ralph McTell in Doncaster in 1970) so folk music has a lot to answer for! |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: GUEST,Carol Date: 20 Jun 05 - 04:18 PM Great weekend and thanks to Mr Oombanjo and everyone who kept the fringe going, long may it carry on Carol |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 20 Jun 05 - 03:05 PM Great weekend. Singing in the dawn on the pub steps with Hazel was a treat. Long may the fringe continue but hopefully the festival organisers will consider having a tent available for late night singing and playing as in previous years. Its not just fringers who want to stop up and play after the concerts etc have done. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 20 Jun 05 - 02:47 PM Yes, thanks to all who came and sang in the sessions that I ran over the weekend - too long a list to put down here. Suffice it to say that The Sun once again made enough money this weekend to keep it going for a while. The landlord actually said that he had enjoyed it!! - for those that know, it is a great admission. R |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Paco Rabanne Date: 20 Jun 05 - 06:06 AM We went to see Kate Rusby in The Leisure centre last night, and it was a tad on the warm side! |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Geoff the Duck Date: 20 Jun 05 - 04:56 AM We enjoyed ourselves at the fringe. Glad we hadn't bought concert tickets for Sunday - it was so hot we could scarcely move. Guest - Bev-res - Unlikely to see such a sight - a real morris dancer wouldn't be wearing a rucksack.... Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Linda Kelly Date: 19 Jun 05 - 04:43 PM Yes very well done John, didn't make today as visit from grandchildren, but very much enjoyed Friday and Saturday despite heat!!! |
Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: nutty Date: 19 Jun 05 - 02:53 PM Just got back from a great weekend at Beverley. Came through a daddy of a thunderstorm at Thirsk, had to pull up for half an hour as it was just impossible to see to drive. Rain in sheets, hail hitting the windscreen so hard I thought it was going to break and drains just totally incapable of handling the amount of water that the heavens were shedding. God definitely pulled the plug on this one. Strangest thing was, the rain and hail were making so much noise they almost drowned out the thunder. Anyway .... back to the festival ..... Thanks to oombanjo, Mrs oombanjo, Sir Roger and anyone else who fought so hard to keep the fringe going. Keep up the good work and I'll definitely be back next year. PS ... the only complaints I heard all weekend were about the Festival proper. |

Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Geoff the Duck Date: 07 May 05 - 10:38 AM I know that a number of old-Time American music fans will be missing because of another event that weekend. I am still interested in having some time set aside for an old-timey session. If you want somebody to sit in a pub and be "officially" in charge of an old-time jam, I would happily do so. Quack! Geoff the Duck. |

Subject: RE: Beverley Fringe 2005 From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 23 Apr 05 - 09:04 AM The feeling from most of the locals is that they wouldn't go there even if the rules were relaxed - on the basis that we are here in Beverley all year and need good licensees to support the music for the other 51 weeks, not just to profit from the festival weekend.
