I've had a check of both the Spring Equinox and Easter threads. I suppose I was hoping to head away from specifically Christian Easter themes in favour of more agricultural, seasonal and folkloric ones.

This is a continuation of my post above. I forgot to respond to the post about "Goldwatch Blues." This song may be un-PC, but it has a worthy message. Somebody told me that it is about employers who have total control over their employees' lives. During their retirement, they were given only a gold watch for their years of hard work. I don't know about what was PC or not in the sixties, but I would guess that it wasn't the same as what is PC today. So perhaps "queer" was not considered a bad word back then, although it certainly is today.

I saw that somebody asked here for the name of a second album in "A Gift From a Flower to a Garden." It's called "wear your love like heaven," and I bought it a few months ago from a used record store. I have to say that it was a disappointment. I like the title song, but not really anything else.

The other Donovan album which I have is called "Catch the Wind," which was released in Britain as "What's Bin Did and What's Bin Hid," I believe. I like it much better.

To the person who asked for chords to "Celia of the Seals," I found them online recently with lyrics.

I don't own many of Donovan's albums, but I sometimes listen to his songs on a free music listening website that a friend showed me. It's http://listen.grooveshark.com I am too young to have lived in his era, but I enjoy his songs all the same. A teacher in middle school sang "Colours" for us, and that's how I first learned about who he was. Some of my favorite songs are "Colours," "To Sing for You," "Guinevere," and "There is a Mountain." "Ballad of a Crystal Man" is my number one favorite. I learned it from a back issue of "Broadside Magazine" at http://broadsidemagazine.com/.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the double album "HMS Donovan" which was a collection of childrens (of all ages) nursery rhymes. It was one of my favourites, till I loaned it to someone who lost it. I searched in vain for years for a replacement copy. I did eventually manage to get a taped copy but of course it does not have that magical cover painted by the Scottish artist "Patrick"

Unless I'm much mistaken (which is entirely possible!), the singer on That Was The Week That Was was Lance Percival, not Donovan. There was also Millicent Martin...

I remember Donovan being on a British TV show, That was the week that was ( If I remember correctly) This show took a satirical look at Britain, and was as cruel as anything I have ever seen since. Donovan used to sing the weeks news. I would say that this is where he did his apprenticeship in sonwriting. He was really the highlight of the show.

If I remember the story correctly, the first time Donovan met Dylan, Donovan played him a new tune which turned out to be Mr Tambourine Man (probably Donovan had ingested it from some background radio or something). How's that for life's embarrassing moments!!! Dylan decided he was a phony from then on (and when Dylan decided something, that was it forever). (This could, of course, be a completely apocryphal story).
God, Season of the Witch, Guinevere. The hours I spent listening to those songs. When I think of the kinds of flower-power outfits I was wearing at the time -- or was it just the drugs???!!!!!!

"For Little Ones" is the album that has "The Enchanted Gypsy" and "Song of the Naturalist's Wife" and "Epistle to Derroll" etc. -- it is also part one of a two-record set called "A Gift From a Flower to a Garden", and my ginkgo deficiency is preventing me from remembering the name of the second record in the set. The live album (was it called Donovan Live? I don't think so) is, I think, the one with the bird flying over the sand. I'll have to go back to my record collection and straighten it out.
I used to sing "To Try for the Sun" as I'd walk home from the bus stop on cold winter days in Philadelphia. "Our years put together counted thirty"...those were the days. "For Little Ones" started out with the sound of a baby crying. When I first put it on my stereo my mother ran into the room saying "Did I hear a baby?"
When I heard "Catch the Wind" I assumed that Donovan started out by trying to be another Dylan, and then moved on to his own stuff.
I just keep loving the Mudcat. Where else can you talk about this stuff to people who understand?

No net link at home at the mo, so I've come to this late.

I was only playing the Alamo last night a rousing chorus and great to sing.

I saw Donovan a year or so back, he had his daughter singing backup and it was a good evenings entertainment. Made me feel young again (and that's difficult to do).

Does anyone have the chords to Celia of the Seals ? I asked a little while back but no joy.

Amos, In answer to your question, Donovan is still performing and did a tour of Australia a couple of years ago.

Whilst he went on a bit about the old days, did a lot of name dropping and was (I think) a little partonising to the audience, his guitar work is still very solid and his voice is a good as ever.

All in all I enjoyed the show as did my 25year old son who had never seen him before, and knew very little about his music.

Metchosin, yes that is the song, but there were two albums which included it. I went out years alter and found one which has it but it wasn't the same album as the first. The second one is light blue sky over a sandy coloured land, with a little bird flying across the sky and it is, I think, live.

Donovan is still very much the songwriter/singer. As mentioned before in this thread, his newest CD, "Sutras" is, IMO, superb, not one song on it that I don't love.

If anyone ever find the lyrics to any of the Sutras' songs, please let me know.
